Yesterday, I had the chance to dine at Restaurant Georgette. I found a reservation the morning before and booked online. I am traveling for business so I planned to dine in my own. It was a beautiful sunny day in Paris and the neighborhood was alive with Sunday activities. When I walked in to give my name, the young man at the bar greeted me and asked in French to help me. I responded in French with my reservation time and name. He switched to English and began asking if I had booked or not. I confirmed that I had an spelled my name. I also added that I speak French. He ignored this and and kept firing questions in English. I found this greeting brusque and unworthy of a restaurant like this. He finally found my name and took me to the back where the small children were seated. I asked if there were other options and he said “non”. The patio was full and the front room only had one table of four.

I decided to stay and enjoy my Sunday lunch.

The waiter had some trouble when I explained that I couldn’t have fish and still suggested the eel dish.

The food itself was complex, flavorful and nothing like I had tied before. The wine was a Bourgogne and quite complimentary.

I chose the pumpkin risotto and the sorbet to finish.

The design and orientation of the restaurant allows for the food to take center stage. I enjoyed the simplicity.

Le début n’était pas le façon ou j’ai voulu mais à la fin de déjeuner l’un des serveurs est venu de me demander si j’étais prof de français. Il fut laisser les gens parler la langue avant de juger. Un très bon repas et moins bien pour...

I took my family on Easter Sunday for dinner on our last night in Europe. Unfortunately it was the worst meal of our 2 weeks in France and the Netherlands. The plates were not well executed in flavor or presentation. The chorizo mousse was the best dish we tasted and the consistency was too thin, more like a vichyssoise. The bread was more moist than the chicken. The sea bass was also over cooked and bland. They had a steak tataki which would have been ok but it was swimming in a sea of goat cheese sauce that looked as unappetizing as it tasted. I got the lamb which was not a good cut and still had the full fat cap, also slightly over-cooked and bland. It was served with a purple mush that had a dollop of orange in the middle, when mixed together it formed a nauseating goose poop green on my plate.

The wine by the glass list was great and after a nice saint emillion, I ordered the pessac leognan. I wouldn’t usually order that with lamb but after the appetizers I figured I may as well order a wine I would enjoy and that ended up being the right call. Although they served me this delicious bordeaux wine in a burgundy glass. I don’t know if it was an honest mistake or they assumed being American I didn’t know the difference. Either way, it was not a good experience especially for the price. We decided not to stay for dessert. I usually don’t write negative reviews, but I would highly suggest avoiding this...

Georgette tried to SCAM us TWICE when we came for lunch. They intentionally overcharged our bill by 10 euros. I only realized because I asked them for the receipt because the female waitress wasn’t going to show it to me (my friend and I split the bill 50/50 and I noticed my total was higher than I expected). When we asked for the money back, they only gave my friend a 5 euro bill and a 1 euro coin. I had to go back and ask for the remaining 4 euros which they reluctantly gave us after talking to each other in French. They also asked us for a TIP which only happens when restaurants try to take advantage of unknowing Americans. They thought they could get away with overcharging, giving us the wrong amount of change, and asking for a tip because we were American. When we first sat down, a male waiter told us that they had a special tuna and white fish starter and entree deal for 25 euros total that was only on the French menu and not the English menu. When the female waiter who served us for the rest of the meal came with the check she charged us the full price for the starter and entree which was 35 euros because she didn’t know we knew about the deal. I am extremely disappointed because I did enjoy the food but they completely tried to take advantage of us. There is no excuse for...
