This restaurant experience is the worst I’ve ever had in any restaurant in the world! Completely unacceptable! I am not often to put any comments on Google !! This is terrible experience !
On Sunday, June 2nd, I made a dinner reservation for three people at 7:45 PM. Although I was late, I arrived with two friends at around 8:25 PM. The receptionist downstairs directed us to the fourth floor, so I assumed we had checked in. Later, when my other friend arrived after parking the car, the receptionist downstairs refused to let him in, asking him to prove that I was already in the restaurant. Even though he provided my name and confirmed our reservation for three, the receptionist was rude and did not believe him, insisting he prove where I was sitting. This was very strange as my friend had to video call me to show the receptionist our table.
This attitude was very unpleasant, especially since we had a reservation. Another issue arose when one of the dishes we ordered was undercooked and inedible. We asked for a replacement, but the first waiter said the manager did not approve. After we explained the reason, the second waiter also refused, stating that we had already ordered the dish. When the third waiter came, we strongly expressed that it was a quality issue, not a preference, as the beef was impossible to chew. Finally, they suggested replacing it with salmon, which we agreed to.
However, when we paid the bill, we did not notice an extra charge of 20 euros for the beef until later. We complained again, and the manager’s attitude was extremely poor, constantly arguing that we could not cancel our order and that their food was liked by all customers. We reiterated that it was a quality issue, not a matter of preference. Finally, after much delay, they refunded the 20 euros.
This experience was already very unpleasant, but what made it worse was that today I received a notification saying that our deposit of 50 euros per person, totaling 150 euros, was charged again, claiming that we did not show up at the restaurant. I was really looking forward to visiting The Roof during my trip to Paris, especially since my friend and I were celebrating my birthday. Unfortunately, the experience was a letdown — mainly due to how we were treated at the front.
When we arrived, I asked if we could be seated at a table as a walk-in. The hostess (I believe her name was Mary or Marie) told us a table might open up around 10pm — about an hour later — and said she’d grab us if one became available. So my friend and I sat at the bar, ordered drinks, and waited patiently.
At 10pm, I checked in with her as she had suggested, only to be told there were no tables available and that I’d need to make a reservation online. That was the first time she mentioned anything about needing a reservation. I went online right then and saw plenty of availability — including tables for 10:15pm and in 15-minute increments after that. How rude and confusing is it to make a guest wait an hour, then tell them after the fact to book a reservation? It felt careless and dismissive — like she simply didn’t want to bother helping us.
To top it off, our food at the bar took over an hour to arrive. It was honestly just a disorganized and frustrating experience.
The one bright spot was the bar staff — especially Étienne — who was kind, attentive, and professional. The views are beautiful, but the lack of clear communication and poor front-of-house hospitality really brought the whole experience down.

When I queried the waiter about the serving temperature, he confirmed that it was not intended to be cold, expressing surprise at the error. Although the second attempt was slightly warmer, the quality fell short of freshly cooked. The continual missteps led me to request the dish be removed from my bill due to its extremely unpleasant texture. I also believe that establishments should consider offering separate smoking and non-smoking sections, as the prevalence of smoking in Paris made the experience uncomfortable with neighboring tables on both sides engaging in smoking throughout the day.
