“Eccentric” is an understatement at le Tambour. From the outside, it’s just another standard Parisian café with a shaded terrace and bistro classics on the menu. But step inside and you’ll see it’s not quite your average bar. The staff is a cast of absolute characters. From the older waiter with the Captain Birdseye beard to the guy with the long, lank ponytail, it can feel like a bar for retired sailors. Open daily into the early hours, le Tambour is a favorite haunt for the area’s nocturnal stragglers. The décor is one of the bar’s most amusing quirks. Hanging from the ceiling, covering every inch of wall space, and even incorporated into the bar stools, are old road signs and Métro maps. But, most bizarrely of all, to the right of the bar is a scaled-down model of the bar itself, complete with flashing lights and moving parts. It’s wacky but brilliant. On the menu are French country classics such as andouillette (blood sausage), pied de cochon (pig’s foot) and entrecôte (steak). All of them are served with fantastic homemade frites at reasonable prices. The kitchen stays open late and le Tambour offers an impressive wine selection. You can even order a bottle à la ficelle, a fantastic French tradition sadly no longer in use in most Parisian bars, where you just pay for what you’ve drunk. Though it looks deceptively small from the outside, Le Tambour runs quite far back into the building. It also has a second terrace round the back, not immediately obvious from the outside, and only accessible...

We had a Birthday to celebrate and walked by Tambour in the afternoon. The exterior was super cute and the vibe was already lively. They took our reservation for 20:00h on the spot for that same evening. The hostess was so kind and professional. Came back later that evening and although we asked for a table outside when we reserved, they didn’t have one and quickly set us up inside right by the patio so we could enjoy the “people watching” as well. The service was amazing, both fluent in French and English as we were more anglophone. The menu/food hit all the right spots and was absolutely delicious. French onion soup, escargot, beef bourguignon, skirt steak & fries, strip-loin dinner with veggies, potatoes and a lovely fish dish which my mom loved. Great space, great vibe, great service, great food and all reasonably priced! Thanks Tambour for...

Doit-on me mettre à l'arrière ?

Hooray! We joked that this was our favorite restaurant in Paris, just due to the fact that the kids ate their food. We got them omelets and a side of hummus, and they wolfed it down. For the adults, we had bowls which were very Japanese inspired. Lots of edamame, rice, and a sweet soy sauce dressing. Honestly, this place was great regardless as a “where should we eat lunch” spot. If you’re trying to decide, just go with it. Set on a leafy part of the street, the people watching was outstanding. The staff was very kind and busily serving the other tables which seemed packed with locals. Merci!

Lovely intimate place on Rue Montemarte… we came late at night just seconds from the time their kitchen closes.. we were hesitant about the freshness of the food, but it turned out great.. We had only 2 dishes and both are worth to come back for. Thai Salad (10/10). The greens and vegetables tasted clearly fresh, and so as the fried crispy shrimps on top.. So delectable. Fish & Chips (9/10). not a typical french dish but it was worthy. The batter was crispy and fish was rich so as and the Tartar sauce.. we dipped the fries in it.. So yummy.
