Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience with the food here. We were doing a food tour of restaurants that featured Peruvian cuisine, and that’s how we ended up at Selva. To start, the dishes are named after Peruvian classics: Ceviche and Tiradito, which led us to order both since we know these dishes well—we are Peruvian that worked in the culinary field in Peru.

The ceviche was a complete disappointment: the fish hadn’t been properly “cooked” by the lime juice, and it didn’t taste fresh. The liquid that accompanied it was almost flavorless, like water—nothing like the leche de tigre that gives a good ceviche its soul. IT SIMPLY WASN'T CEVICHE.

Then came the Tiradito, and I was shocked—it was anything but a Tiradito. I even had to ask the waitress twice to check if what we received was actually the dish. It looked like some sort of raw fish salad with sliced olives, mussels, and again a watery, transparent sauce that tasted like vinegar, topped with edible flowers. Never in my life have I seen a Tiradito like this.

I’m Peruvian and worked for several years in the culinary field in Lima, visiting both gourmet restaurants and huariques for different projects, and this was terrible—and in Paris of all places! I brought a French friend hoping to show him a bit of latinoamerican cuisine, but I ended up feeling embarrassed.

I understand that this isn’t a Peruvian restaurant per se, but rather one that seems to be inspired by or fusing Peruvian cuisine—one of the richest and most diverse in Latin America. But please, I beg you: CHANGE THE NAME OF YOUR DISHES. If you want to create your own version of something, be inspired and go for it—but change the name. Peruvian cuisine already has a name and a reputation abroad, and it’s not acceptable to sell dishes under names that don’t reflect what is actually being served.

As for the black rice, that was good—it was served as-is, not under the name Arroz con Mariscos or Paella or anything else, just simply as what it was and that was great! The lemon and coconut drink, however, was also terrible. Within seconds of being served, it had separated into a creamy layer on top and water underneath—it wasn’t well mixed or well presented.

The prices for all of this were far too high for what was offered, both for the food and drinks, and the space itself was far too small.

I admire the intention to showcase a bit of Latin American cuisine to a French public that may not know much about it, but for that very reason—being among the first to do so—the responsibility and respect for the culinary tradition should be...

We went there with a group of 8. The food was good and wine list satisfied us both in terms of white and red. We had some starters and main plates.

The only - very - annoying thing was their reservation system. I booked a few days before and received three emails to confirm my reservation. Apparently in one of them they asked a 25€/person card guarantee and missed it. Then my reservation got canceled. I then booked again and added the guarantee card. I received an email then saying that they needed a guarantee. So added the guarantee card a second time. The day after I received a call saying that with no card guarantee they would cancel the reservation. Then I said I added the card twice already but they claimed not having received it and they would cancel the reservation. I suggested to send the screenshot via WhatsApp but they said that if I don’t enter it they would cancel the reservation. So I said I would do it a third time but this was absurd. When they called again to confirm they received it I didn’t have the time to enter it yet they could see this was done ?!

During the dinner they forgot to bring half of the starters and arrived after half an hour.

I mean wasting so much time for a restaurant is crazy and the waiter was so impolite it was the stereotype of the Parisian waiter being bordering arrogance with a customer telling you three times that the guarantee was entered. I understand they want certainty people go but I have other stuff to do in my life than dealing with this for 5...
