This hotel has a rotting infrastructure and is weakly managed. I was there at the end of June 2025 when it was exceptionally hot, in the 80s and 90s. The air conditioning failed in several rooms, including mine, and of course it did no good to open the windows. They did provide fans, but that was not up to expectations. I got into the shower at the end of the day, with some time pressure to get to an evening commitment and found that the shower drain was about 70% clogged so I had to run the water at about 50%. When I tried to report that on the phone, it was impossible to find out how to reach the front desk (the secret was to dial 9). I travel a lot, I am in hotels about 6 - 8 weeks a year and most of them give dialing instructions on the phone. And when I tried to use the hairdryer in the bathroom, the plug fell out of the outlet. (The secret on that is that you must not just push the plug into the socket, you must also push the socket into the wall about another quarter inch. I ran into that again, but I have never found that feature elsewhere in Europe and, indeed, if you tried that elsewhere I suspect you might get electrocuted.) I had a "prestige" (more expensive) room. The foot of the bed was about 12 - 14" away from the wall. The "balcony" was a disk less than a yard in diameter. The breakfast attendant was frequently missing and failed to replace items that had run out. The room was clean and the bedding very good.
I had marvelous experiences at two other Mercure hotels on that trip, so I will stick with them, but they need to understand that the value of a brand depends consistency, and this place does...

No space in bathroom to place anything on a counter or in the shower; shower head was broken; bare minimum toiletries provided. There was only one place to hang a towel, which is ridiculous in a two person room.
Windows couldn't open fully because curtains were attached to wall at one end preventing on half of the window from staying open.
Every night we got back the night desk staff was on a sofa with a blanket and on their phone. Completely unprofessional. During the day unless you rang the bell they were not at the desk which was a tiny island in the middle of the lobby. My reservation said check in at noon, but was told to take it up with hotwire and they wouldn't let us check in until later.
Speaking of the lobby; there are some nice pictures, but these are tiny little nooks in awkward angles, and no real useful space; everyone is cramped into a small area where the single reception desk is between the entry door and stairwell.
You can tell there is no space on the ground floor because while we were waiting to check in a manager was interviewing potential staff right there in the lobby. (Side note; based on the floor plan from the fire escape routes; ~20% of the rooms are internal rooms that face a wall, that would be incredibly infuriating to pay these rates and get one of those rooms)
In France all the hotels have their star ratings posted outside by law, and comparing this place with all the others we walked by, we're absolutely sure someone messed up the rating; or paid a bribe. Who knows; just...
Read moreI was extremely underwhelmed and disappointed by my stay at the MERCURE Paris Notre Dame de Près hotel. I specifically chose this hotel because I had previously stayed at a MERCURE hotel in Germany and was very impressed by the staff and quality of the rooms and the breakfast.|| Despite having notified the hotel in advance that I would be sharing a twin room with an adult male sibling, I was shocked to see when I checked in that the room size was extremely small and that the two twin beds were essentially a queen size bed because they were joined together. ||Hotel management did not seem to think this was a big deal because the bedding was separate; however, given that my sibling and I are grown adults of the opposite gender, the accommodations were inappropriate and hotel staff should have mentioned the room size and the bed situation ahead of time throughout our email conversations. ||Due to the accommodations, I had to pay for a separate room at a much higher rate. I would not stay at this hotel again if I were travelling to Paris, nor would I recommend it to anyone I know. ||Further, the breakfast option is...
