Restaurant Le Grillon — Restaurant in Thonon-les-Bains

I hate to post negative reviews, but I wanted to warn people against the negative experience we had this evening, particularly given how Morzine is a town where it’s hard to get dinner without a reservation. My in-laws booked a table for 7pm for eight of us for dinner (7 adults, 1 child). We arrived at 7.00 pretty much on the dot only for the woman on the front desk to tell us that our table had been booked for 6.45 (a blatant lie) and we were late and she had just given our table away - despite her not asking for the name of the booking at all. When we insisted it was a 7.00pm booking, she got aggressive extremely quickly and demanded we leave the restaurant. If I was to judge the situation, it seemed like she had made a mistake - or given the table away at her own discretion - and was being defensive to avoid acknowledging it. It was a really bizarre and upsetting interaction, particularly to behave like that in front of my 4 year old niece. Was really looking for forward to this meal we booked in for Christmas Day. We were sat down fast and ordered drinks and a hot skillet meat platter to share between two. We were expected to cook raw meat with out knifes and forks and then eat with same cutlery we had to ask for tongs we were only given one pair because that’s all they had apparently. The hot plate had no oil so everything just stuck to it. There was not enough meat. My potato gratin was cold in the middle yet roasting hot on the outside. The accompanying sauces were a mystery. We were never offered more drinks and never had a check back to see if food was ok. I did mention at the end about the potatoes but was told I should of said something earlier and I responded we would of had we been asked if it was ok. I was trying to get the waiters attention for ages to say about potatoes. And took even longer to get bill we had to go up in the end. I have visited this restaurant in the past and we have always enjoyed our meal and the staff at the restaurant have been great but I was absolutely disgusted by their attitude on a recent visit and we will never go there again.

I have had a house in Morzine for 18 years - I booked a table for my family of 8 people (including children) at 7.00 and when we arrived at 6.55 an employee advised that she had given our table away because it was booked for 6.45 (which it wasn’t !!!)

I have never experienced such an abusive member of staff ever!!

I think she subsequently banned me for asking her politely not to call me a liar but I’m really not too upset as I’d never go there again if they gave me a free meal for life!!

I strongly recommend that you avoid this restaurant.

We went instead to the Alpine Lounge who couldn’t have been more accommodating and polite. And their food is ten times better anyway.
