Bar am Steinplatz — Restaurant in Berlin

High end hotel bar, just not my cup of tea. It’s a rather elegant space, the bar chairs look inviting but were surprisingly uncomfortable for me. Competent, if slightly impersonal / cool service. Drinks are made according to an intriguing concept: all house drinks look the same and come in the same glass, to be distinguished only by taste. In practice, this didn’t do too much for me, but the bar has won several awards for this. Each drink is €14, which isn’t wildly overpriced, but still too much for what you get in my book. The bar food I ordered was quite good.

Die Bar an sich ist hübsch und ruhig. Enträuschend war, dass wir dort hingingen, weil auf der Website groß steht, dass es sich um die erste Hotelbar mit alkoholfreier Barkarte (dies wird auf der Startseite der Bar ausführlich beschrieben) handelt. Es gab aber nur 3 alkoholfreie Cocktails und auf Nachfrage, ob man auch etwas anderes anbieten könne, sagte die Barkeeperin "Wir haben nicht viel Alkoholfreies in der Bar". Die Bedienung war leider sehr überfordert und schüchtern, obwohl die ganze Zeit insgesamt nur 5 Gäste in der Bar waren. Ich hatte einen alkoholfreien Cocktail, der gut schmeckte und meine Begleitung einen alkoholischen, der in der Karte sehr gut klang, aber nach Desinfektionsmittel schmeckte. Der Barkeeperin musste genau erklärt werden, wie sie den Cocktail zu ändern hat, damit dieser schmeckt. Dann war es super. Das zu den Cocktails gereichte Popcorn schmeckte sehr gut und war eine schöne Idee. Wir werden allerdings kein zweites Mal...
