De Rome Restaurant — Restaurant in Berlin

My friends and I did not eat in the restaurant but rather had a few drinks at the bar on a Saturday night. We sat on bar stools at the bar, met some nice & interesting people and enjoyed our good but expensive cocktails. What struck me as disproportionate was the complete lack of attention from the bar team. Granted, they are very busy with all the orders from the bar and restaurant, but being ignored, never eye contact, never asking if we need anything - not the experience I had expected from this so-called classy establishment. I was a bartender for many years and I know that eye contact and communication with those sitting at the bar is not only essential but in the interest of the establishment's reputation. Formal restaurant with plush decor. Enjoyed the burrata starter. Duck was a generous sized portion with crispy vegetables and mushrooms though the sauce was a bit thick and unrefined to my taste. I would have preferred a more traditional melanzane parmigiana to the restaurant's interpretation of the dish. Ditto the toffee tiramisu, I prefer a more traditional one as in Italy. Service was formal, somewhat attentive but sometimes less so, and as is often the case in Berlin, a bit lacking in warmth. Pricey for the actual experience itself. Beautiful breakfast at Chiaro! Not my first time having breakfast at Hotel de Rome, but they surprise you with something new every time. I had a great experience with very attentive staff and an amazing choice from the buffet and menu. They even have a panini station! Lot's of options also for vegetarians and vegans. The atmosphere was really relaxing, not that feeling of everyone being in a rush, exotically the staff, you often see. Only downside: I did not have time to try the restaurant for lunch or dinner.
