I live around the corner but must admit I have missed this place fully out. Monday 6pm we (four adults)arrived and we had no pre booking. The servile manager showed us two supplement table where they could squeeze us in because it was very full. We accepted one of the offers.

Menu was on the table after a few minutes, drink orders taken about 4-5 minutes later and then we was given time to read the menu through in peace and the drink was served. Manolito was our waiter and he came to the table and asked if we needed any guidance. He offered a few interesting recommendation and through our whole time he gave us a perfect amount of attention with a smile and interest in our well being.. At the end we ordered veil schnitzel and Gulasch.

The schnitzel was a big and well tendered with a buttery taste. The sides, oven baked veggies soft with a bit crunch left. Perfect! The Gulasch was in a rich sauce, musty and packed with tastes from mushrooms and other veggies, very generous with big pieces of meat, the mash was rustical but silky at the same time. The Gulasch portion was so big that it was a decent lunch box for tomorrow to bring in nice boxing home.

A very nice first time experience for us and we will be back for the food and the sweet and beautiful service from Manolito

The only thing if to find something on the minus side, my personal preference is to get my stew smoking hot on the table but it was “eat temperature” of the food instant it landed of the table. At the end of a meal it’s “cold” food and I’m not the biggest fan of that. But it’s really after search deep down just to find a tiny tiny stain on a stain free experience. Thanks to all involved for a cozy...

This restaurant not only does German cuisine, it is an exclusive place for locals, instead poor tourists, foreign workers, and in general those who do not speak German are not welcome in this place. They don't have any English-speaking waiters, including those at the front desk, but they don't even have an English menu, which complicates everything since the cuisine is particular, so even those who speak a little German are left out since the terms used are very specific and not things you usually find. These hospitality professionals don't even want to have a simple online menu with QR codes, as even dive bars have now. They don't, they want you to understand that you are not welcome and their German cuisine is only for Germans. I came here with colleagues from London, wanting to try something local, I have never been so ashamed in having chosen a place for my. guests as in this case. Our waitress then was Romanian, a rare case where an immigrant (had been here a few years) does not speak a word of English, also very proud and amused to see the guests embarrassed (there were as many as 16 of us... ) The food was decent, for being German cuisine it is also okay, it is what it is, nothing special, but the service and this lack of respect for out-of-town customers, despite being located in the so-called "international district" and despite the fact that a restaurant should be the epitome of hospitality, I will never recommend it to anyone, and I write this review in English to discourage as many people...

Hard to review this place and here is why;

We were a walk-in on a Wednesday because when we tried to book online there was so much availability so we decided to just walk-in and not book and an exact time. When we arrived the restaurant was busy but not full we almost got turned away. Its only at my husband’s insistence that we were finally seated and they were good seats too over looking a full empty section of the restaurant (maybe they didnt have enough staff that day?)

Place is really nice inside with great decor and ambiance.

Service: the waitresses we had were so nice but unfortunately their English wasn’t great and the menus are in German only and its a big menu so they asked us to use Google translate! We ended up looking up photos on Google reviews and asking for that, hoping it would be what we want to eat.

Beer was really good, fresh, fizzy and cold so everything you want

After hoping we ordered right the food (schnitzel and veal cheeks) came quickly, portions are good size although the schnitzel could have had a few veggie sides arranged better on the plate.

It is on the expensive side for what it is.. a schnitzel at €23 is a lot!

Overall good experience, just wish they can accommodate a little better for tourists who can’t...

We booked a table for two, hoping to enjoy some traditional German gastronomy. The food is fine, but the dishes are rather more simple than what I would have expected. The portions weren't too large. The meat is OK, overcooked with tons of butter to make it more tasty. Only based on the food, I would probably give the place four stars. But our experience here was quite bad. I did my best to communicate in my poor German, but thankfully there was a waiter that sort of understood English. Unfortunately, the waiter that served our table ignored us several times, left us waiting for quite some time and when we asked for some advice regarding the menu, the guy simply misled us. After being ignored for more than half an hour with our dishes empty on our table, when we finally managed to order dessert, the waiter informed us that the kitchen was already closed. It was very obvious to us that we weren't welcome in that place and we sincerely regretted ever choosing it for our dinner. The place has some excellent reviews and several food blogs recommend it. But when it comes to sharing dinner with someone, food is not the only thing that matters.

Looking forward to some homey meaty dishes, we cost this place whilst in friedrichshain. Well, the service is very helpful and nice. The menu looks interesting with lots of different meat dishes like hare. Unfortunately what doesn't make sense is that there's no kids menu at all. But your child gets colouring out paper with riddles and colour pencils. And let me tell you there were at least three more tables with kids who would not manage eating a regular dish, considering also the full price. Well unfortunately the deer dish, Rehrücken was overcooked, it was durchgekocht, instead of pink.. It's deer, it has to be pink without us telling the chef It's a waste of meat. So since it took a long time for the food to come and our daughter was hungry we didn't send the deer dish back. I also didn't feel it was worth the price since it had only one carrot and one swede and a tiny amount of sauce. The schnitzel was ok, but neither much or sufficient side vegetables. Unfortunately we won't be returning.
