I'm not a regular reviewer and hesitant to write this review, but I had such an unpleasant experience last week that I feel compelled to share it. I live in the US but have spent a lot of time in Berlin and always stay in the neighborhood near this restaurant. I've probably dined here about 10 times in the past - the atmosphere is fun and authentic and the food is delicious. Last Wednesday I walked in and asked for a place just for me. I was in Berlin for work and was dining solo. It was relatively early for Berlin, but the place was moderately full. The man working behind the counter acknowledged me but told me to wait for a moment, which was fine with me. He was busy chatting with friends and seemingly deciding on a suit, which he held up on its clothes hanger. After over five minutes he directed me to a spot in the window. I sat there for about 10 minutes when he finally brought me a menu and asked if I'd like a drink. I ordered a Negroni and he departed, bringing back my drink within just a few minutes. And then...nothing. It was relatively early (19:30-20:00) and I was not in a hurry, so I was quite comfortable waiting. I thought I would order some Pecorino to start and then one of the pasta specials. After about 30 minutes of staring at my phone, my drink was finished and I got the man's attention, indicating that I wanted to order. He finally noticed me and indicated that he would be with me "in a few minutes." In the mean time, while I waited with nothing but my empty glass on my table, he laughed and joked with a number of obvious regulars who came in, and delivered plate after plate and drink after drink to the other tables around me, tables busy with friends happily drinking and dining. I continued to wait, thinking that surely soon he would come and take my order. The restaurant is quite small, so it's impossible that he didn't see me or forgot about me. After waiting almost another 45 minutes, and watching him out by the sidewalk smoking with a mate, I decided to get up and walk out. It had been almost 1.5 hours since I walked in the door. It made no sense to me at all. I was completely baffled as to why I was treated in such a manner. It was obvious that he simply didn't want me there. How disappointing, because I loved this little place. And I'm a pretty cool dude and exceedingly polite, so I'm not sure what his deal was. I left a 10 Euro note for my 8 Euro drink - so a 2 Euro tip - because that was all I had. If I could have left no tip I would have. This was the worst dining experience of my life. I've never been treated as so "nothing." As I left the restaurant, the man could have spoken to me, but he didn't. I proceeded to walk to Mädchenitaliener, a delicious Italian place nearby where I have also dined frequently and have always been treated kindly. I spent around 30 Euros. I won't be going back to La...
Read moreWhile the pasta with truffle is good, today it was the second or third time that the bill was not correct, and I finally decided to not return again. Those people are not honest. I hope your continuous intended actions to charge incorrect amounts are clearly reflected.
We asked to split the bill, and I was the very last to pay. The remainder contained two bottles of tap water (4eur each) and olives (4.5 eur) that had just been paid by the last friend. As I asked my friend if the water had been paid, the waiter said that there was one missing. As I asked my friend if the olives had been paid and she said so, the waiter did deny that. The waiter went through a proccess of looking for old receipts, claiming that none of them had been paid. They couldn't find it, and we did the math with them to notice that they had asked for the two waters and the olives. Instead of apologizing, the waiter was rude, saying "okay, this is the price now, what else do you want?". After spending more than 350 eur on our table, an apology is...
Read moreRude staff / bad service. Generally were not friendly. Main breaking point: asked for Parmesan for a seafood pasta got rudely refused. So we asked for it for our gnocchi and were going to put it on the seafood pasta anyway, but the waitress ripped it out of my friends hands and said it’s not allowed. We did it anyway when she left because my friend likes her pasta with Parmesan it’s her taste/ choice. Then another member of staff came out and proceeded to lecture us it’s their principal to not serve Parmesan on seafood pasta. To other Italians I understand you traditionally do not put Parmesan on seafood pasta but the client is always right. You can disagree with it and communicate it but you should never refuse a basic service let alone rip it out of peoples hands as a waitress. Big shame because the food was really good but it’s not worth it for how...
