Ryong — Restaurant in Berlin

I am not a vegetarian; however, I had wanted to try Ryong for a while now and can say that I was pleasantly surprised. My friend and I had the Silky Kimono and Autumn Leaves appetisers, which although were not humongous in size, they were appropriately portioned and packed with flavour. We both had the pho salad as our main dishes and it was a unique take on pho, with the broth served separately to the other contents of the soup, a nod to the way Japanese dishes are often accompanied with a side soup of miso. This allowed for the enjoyment of the two discrete components of the dish individually or at once. The salad was comprised of really nice homemade rice noodles, along with perfectly cooked vegetables and well seasoned seitan alongside a really savoury broth. It didn’t necessarily taste like a classic chicken or beef pho, nor was it pretending to be one; it was a delicious and unique pho that was unexpected! In my experience, vegetarian restaurants often compromise meat for flavour however Ryong managed to do it right; they have a carefully developed menu that is delicious and just happens to be vegetarian. The whole experience seemed like a reasonably priced tasting menu, that vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike can both enjoy. I highly recommend...

I've been to this place 3 years back and I loved it. After a long time yesterday I went there with my friends again but this time I don't know if the server had something going on that day but he was so rude to us. He brought a wrong order, he thought my friend gave a wrong order which is not possible as his gf was there to hear it and there was no way he could've ordered with the number as the server claimed cause he simply didn't know the numbers. But even then he doesn't have to be rude. I came later, I had nothing to do with that situation but I had to experience the rudeness too. Every time he interacted with us there was some snide comment. At the end, he even said something like you re done finally!? The food was great, the place is lovely but this server doesn't have the right to be so rude and aggressive with customers. There was a moment he cleaned the table behind us, it looked so aggressive I personally got a bit scared. Maybe he had a personal situation that day which I wish him the best for but he should not direct it to us. Sometimes customers can be rude and entitled but we are not that type of people and we were kind the whole time. I am personally not happy to expose this server like this but I didn't have any other way...

I was at Ryong with the intent to eat the burgers I've heard so much about. So I did, and they didn't disappoint.

There I ordered the lunch menu with an appetizer and a burger. For the appetizer I had the sweet potatoes, they were very good and so was the sauce they came with. The main dish I took was the Golden Burger, it was delicious. The aubergine with peanut sauce, a fresh salat and pickles, and to top it off the fried bun. Even for the amount of vegetables I wouldn't say it is healthy. But I wasn't expecting healthy of a burger anyway, so all's good.

I thought the price was a bit high for the portions, and style of the restaurant. Even with the appetizer I could have went for a second plate no problem. So for me I think either the portion sizes (for the burgers) should be a bit bigger or the price a tad smaller.
