June 25 : Kastenmeiers Restaurant offers guests a refined and distinctive dining experience. The elegant dining room features clay-plastered walls adorned with artworks in a variety of styles. One of the restaurant’s most striking features is the series of saltwater and freshwater aquariums positioned above the open kitchen, home to live trout, char, and lobster. Gourmet chef Gerd Kastenmeier showcases his culinary expertise through refined fish dishes made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. A curated selection of exquisite wines perfectly complements the meal. During my visit, I had the privilege of attending two pre-event gatherings featuring Chef Gerd Kastenmeier himself. His seafood preparation is arguably the best I’ve experienced in Germany. I was fortunate to join the Caviar Night, where Russian Beluga caviar was generously served and personally prepared by the chef. The free-flowing champagne and white wine made it hard not to indulge—especially impressive considering I had just arrived in Dresden that same morning from Singapore. The grilled fish was superb, but the standout dish was the beef tartare topped with egg and a generous helping of caviar—it was simply out of this world. (Check the photo—you can imagine how much caviar each guest enjoyed!) The second evening event showcased Chef Kastenmeier’s artistry with fresh yellowfin tuna sashimi, carved and prepared on the spot. The warm weather only added to the festive, relaxed atmosphere. To wrap up my stay in Dresden, I dined at the restaurant on my last night and enjoyed a perfectly grilled turbot. Paired with a few sips of schnapps, it was a fantastic conclusion to a remarkable culinary experience. Kastenmeiers is truly a must-visit when in town. I’m incredibly grateful to have been invited to these exclusive events and to witness Chef Kastenmeier working behind the scenes, crafting such exceptional dishes for us. June 24 : It is quite rare to find a good seafood restaurant in Dresden, but we discovered a gem in the city, beautifully decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is especially pleasant in June. We started our dinner with a refreshing raw tuna tartare and salmon sashimi with cucumber tartare. For starters, we sampled a variety of dishes, including grilled scallops, shrimp with rocket salad, seared tuna, and grilled squid. To change our palate between courses, we shared a creamy truffle pasta. For the main course, I chose the pike perch fillet with asparagus ragout and potato foam. The fillet was perfectly grilled with tender meat and crispy skin. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was lovely. We enjoyed pairing our meal with locally made white and red wine. The pleasant weather made dining outside a delightful experience.

Seafood heaven - I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kastemeier Fish Restaurant in Dresden and I must say that it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the elegant and cozy atmosphere, which immediately set the tone for the meal to come. The menu at the Restaurant is a seafood lover's dream, with an impressive selection of fresh and expertly prepared dishes. I opted for the Lobster and Truffle Risotto, and it was simply superb. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the lobster was cooked to perfection - tender, succulent and full of flavor. It was one of the best seafood dishes for a while. But what really stood out to me was the exceptional service provided by the staff and sommelier. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect. They made excellent recommendations, and their attention to detail truly made me feel like a valued guest. Overall, I would highly recommend Kastemeier Fish Restaurant to anyone looking for an excellent seafood dining experience in Dresden. The food is exceptional, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is simply delightful. Whether you're looking for a good restaurant in Dresden, this is the place to be. Five stars all the way!

Went for dinner after a long day with a very hungry stomach. Read raving reviews and was really looking forward to dinner. Restaurant was classy and tastefully decorated. Waiters were great but the waiting time to the food was very very long. After 1hr and 20min, i only managed to have my starter and entree. The restaurant did not look that busy for that long a waiting time. I wish my bread was at least topped up considering the very long wait to the main course. I had the chef’s platter of various types of fish and risotto. The food was delicious but nothing that outstanding that i would expect from a fine dining experience.

I went to Dresden for the first time this week (June 2018) and I will never forget my experience at this restaurant. I went with a colleague and it started in a slightly strange way when we asked the waiter THREE TIMES for a glass of Sancerre and when at last he brought wine to the table, he had decided that we should have a local one instead. Although it was reasonably good and he explained he supports local wine producers, it felt it was imposed upon us and we didn't get a choice. I didn't check the price compared to the Sancerre, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was more expensive too.

The service was pretty slow but the food was good. We particularly enjoyed the oysters and truffle spaghettini - the food is definitely worth it.

I am afraid we were having a good time and we were chatting a lot, so much so that when the waiter arrived pushing a trolley to prepared the crepes suzette we had ordered, we kept on talking. He then disappeared for five minutes and came back with a colleague to whom he was speaking in German. Then, I heard him say 'they don't care anyway' in English, which caught my attention. We watched him flambé the crepes which he slapped onto our plates; he then put them in front of us and walked away. My colleague joked that the presentation looked nice (it was pretty dreadful) and the waiter came back saying 'I apologize for the presentation but people usually care and look at me when I do it, so...' and then he walked away again.

We were pretty gobsmacked by how rude, unpleasant and pretentious this comment was. Having something flambé at your table is nice, but I am afraid it takes a bit more to impress us. Besides, I am sorry but if I go to a restaurant, the food and company is what comes first - I don't care much for the waiter, especially if he is being unpleasant.

I can understand he may have had a bad day- but this is no excuse. I am sorry the restaurant may get a bad reputation for their service as the food is good, but they should really make sure their waiters are not rude to the customers.

If you plan to go there, he had a beard and glasses - prepare yourselves if you get him...
