I have visited this place with my friends twice. Last week and two years ago. First of all, the language. My German is just average, but the staff speaks English and in case you try to speak German, they switch to Hochdeutsch. Which is nice, as the accent in Saxony is quite difficult for me. There is a bar and few tables. The restaurant is not big, therefore there were no issues with waiting for service. There was no noisy radio in background, rather an intimate atmosphere. They offer menu both in German and other one in few languages (Czech, English, if I remember correctly also Russian, and one other language). They have daily menu printed on a paper as well. The prices are average or slightly above average. I've seen worse. Foods are German, Saxonian, Czech. The food was always OK, cannot really complain. They offer quite big selection of beers, obviously...
Read moreHoo boy I did not expect such a great meal from here! We were looking for something a little away from the Altstadt (and I mean a little -- it's only a few minutes walk, right near the Zwinger), and this place concerned me a little since these brewery-restaurants are typically a little touristy. But with a great view of the Zwinger when you're sitting on the patio on a warm day, the atmosphere is fantastic! I ordered a Schnitzel of course and man oh man. It's a very healthy portion and one of the best-cooked veal schnitzels I've had. You pay a pretty penny, but you definitely get your money's worth! They also have a delicious chicken soup and the salad was highly-rated by my dad. Friendly service, great vibes, and surprisingly delicious dishes. This spot is a must-visit next time I find myself in the...
Read moreDecent sausages, meh potato salad and “coleslaw” (really just cabbage - closer to sauerkraut, but not pickled), and cold Paulaner beer. The weissbier is much better than the Pilsner, IMHO.
I’ve read the reviews about the bad service, and we didn’t have that experience. Service was quick, friendly, and charming.
All in all, it’s a decent, relatively cheap, spot to grab a quick sausage and beer while you’re in tourist central, and you won’t be disappointed so long as you don’t set your expectations too high. If your next stop is the Grosser Garten, save a couple euro and get better sausages and beer in a better atmosphere at the little beer garden just east of the palace. If you’re hungry and tired and just want a quick bite without hassle, grab a bratwurst and beer and sit...
