AMAN Tandoor & Bar — Restaurant in Frankfurt

Fantastic addition to Frankfurt's Indian Restaurant scene

Judging this restaurant is easy, if you like Indian food you get an authentic (more or less westernised ) take on the real deal. 5 out of 5. Set in a modern industrial style atmosphere they serve very good beer on tap (Tegernseer Helles, becoming more and more popular but still rare for Frankfurt standards) which in fact harmonizes nicely with Indian style food) and a fine selection of wine. Cocktails are very recommended and up to top level, with an Indian twist to spice things up. Standards like Naan and Samosas taste like they should and don't disappoint. Their Tandoor dishes are a sure thing and left us wanting more. Overall if you talk about the food you're in for a treat.

The service on the other hand needs to pick up on attentiveness and attention to detail. Like taking your empty cup when serving your refill or asking if you want another drink when you're finished is not only adequate at the level they're aiming for but also good for business. Room for improvement would be in regular wash room check ups as well. (Tidiness, paper towel supply ? )

Again, those are minor downsides as the host and owner is extremely friendly, quick with recommendations and has a talent to make you feel at home. Situated North of other fresh Indian spots in town like Eatdoori taste- and price wise Aman is a welcome addition to the scene that wants you come...

Very cool & friendly place to spend time in. Stylish ambience and excellent food. There Bar ( Bar Keeper is triple A !! )has a great choice of Malts & Whiskey's ( not many in Frankfurt have ) and good cocktails on offer!! There is no dedicated parking ( like most of Frankfurt Gastro scene ) however close by you'll find plenty of opportunities. The receptionist / reservation Manager is suuuuuuper friendly and welcoming; her smiles are refreshing and signal that the evening there will be a nice one. She is super accommodating and tries to set you up with seating. Been coming here once or twice a week with friends, all loved the food !! Very engaged and friendly, welcoming owner. When they get very busy over the weekend expect a bit longer wait for your food to come but other than that the team is very friendly and trying their best to serve everyone as good as possible ( nobody is perfect ) I think if they would open till 1 AM they will still be full for drinks, music and good vibes. On the prices, well some things don't make sense ( three Shrimps for 14 Euro as a starter ?? ) the rest on the menu is really value for money and good quality. Leider nur 1 Stern zu vergeben. So wie viele meiner Freunde und Bekannte, werde ich auch nicht mehr im Aman essen. Bevor ich anfange zu erklären wieso: Dies war jahrelang mein absolutes LIEBLINGS-Restaurant in Frankfurt. Ich war jahrelang Gast, und habe schon unzählige Abende im Aman verbracht. Meist sehr schöne, doch das hat leider nun ein Ende.

Mir ist aufgefallen, dass speziell nach COVID schleichend Änderungen stattgefunden haben. Das Prinzip "Never change a running system" scheint man nicht zu verstehen. Oder aber, es gab einen Eigentümerwechsel. In dem Falle tut es mir Leid, da jemand vermutlich viel Geld ausgegeben hat, und nun mit seinen Änderungen die Kundschaft vergrault.

Fangen wir an: Mein, bei Aman absolutes Lieblingsgericht, das Butter Chicken. Dutzende Male schon über die Jahre dort gegessen. Früher: Stolzer Preis, aber sehr lecker, sehr ordentliche Portion. Heute: Stolzer Preis, geschmacklich OK, kleine Portion.

Im Beispiel des Butter Chicken kann ich sagen, dass beispielsweise das Rezept verändert wurde. Darüber kann man nicht klagen, das passiert mal. Früher war es schön cremig, die Soße etwas heller, die Portion groß (kamen im Behälter wie die Mango Chicken heute noch - immerhin wurde das nicht verändert).

Mittlerweile wird das Butter Chicken in einer kleinen Pfanne serviert, mit WIRKLICH wenig Soße. Das Hähnchen wird mittlerweile gegrillt. Das Curry ist leider nicht mehr so lecker wie früher. Was aber gar nicht geht: Es werden ganze vier Stückchen Hähnchen serviert. Ja, ihr lest es richtig. Ihr bezahlt 18€ für ein Butter Chicken, das ganze vier Stück Hähnchen enthält. Das hat mich schon letztes Jahr über wirklich gestört, aber ich habe mich zurückgehalten mit einer Beschwerde, bin stattdessen zu anderen Gerichten ausgewichen. Hier konnte man allerdings auch durchweg beobachten, dass die Gerichte a) preislich wirklich teurer wurden (OK, Inflation...) aber auch b) gleichzeitig Portionen kleiner wurden (und c) geschmacklich auch ein Downgrade erhalten haben). Denkt man wirklich, dass Kunden so blöd sind, und sowas nicht bemerken?

Aber auch darüber habe ich hinweg gesehen, da ich wie anfangs erwähnt wirklich jahrelang hier Gast war und sehr schöne Abende verbracht habe. Ich habe mir eingeredet, dass die Inflation alle betrifft, auch Unternehmen, dass sie auch steigende Kosten haben, und so weiter und so fort (bin aber dennoch deutlich seltener hin als früher).

Nun war ich letzte Woche dort, und es gab das i-Tüpfelchen: Das Reis wird nun EXTRA berechnet, ist nicht mehr im Gerichtspreis dabei. Welches indisches Restaurant serviert ein Curry und berechnet das Reis extra? Das war wirklich zu viel des Guten für mich, in Kombination mit den oben genannten Faktoren.

Hier wird mittlerweile leider der Fokus darauf gelegt, den zahlenden Kunden wie eine Zitrone auszupressen und jeden Cent Profit mitzunehmen. Ich würde den Betreibern nahelegen, den Fokus wie früher auf großartiges Essen und Kundenzufriedenheit zu legen, anstatt auf Profit. Auch ein Nachschlagen des Wortes "Preiselastizität" würde sicher helfen.

Das war es leider für mich und Aman, ich werde hier sicher nicht mehr mein Geld...
