I have been staying at this hotel for nearly three weeks and I think it's important I shed more light on the location...which many of the reviews talk about, but few really talk about accurately. First, let's talk about the "bad" streets: Taunusstrasse - This is the street that is full of sex-shops, casinos, and the like and, if I walk down the street alone (as a guy), I will be solicited by various women. It is also the shortest walk to the train station. I don't find this street all that dangerous, but there is definitely a class of person that would choose to "hang out" on this street. Niddastrasse - One block north of Taunusstrasse (the hotel is between these two streets), this is the street most frequented by drug users. Walking down this street in the early morning is particularly bad, as often people are passed out on the sidewalk. This street does concern me safety-wise and I avoid it at all costs. Karlstrasse - Connects Niddastrasse to the train station a few blocks down. Even worse than Niddastrasse.
Now let's talk about why none of these streets should concern people staying at the Hilton Garden Inn... The hotel is right at the crossroads of the business district and the red light district. If you walk one direction (toward the train station), you will be in the red light district. If you walk the other direction (toward the Altstadt and Zeil), it is perfectly fine...in fact, you quickly enter a high-end, expensive area of the city.
If you walk north-south, up or down the street the hotel is on...Weserstrasse...it is also perfectly fine. Thus, to avoid the red-light district, you have three really-good options: Walk to Willy-Brandt Platz. It's about the same length of a walk as walking to the train station (Hauptbahnhof), but you're walking down some really nice streets with good restaurants, or going through Gallusanlage park, which is really nice. Willy-Brandt-Platz has tram connections and 6 U-bahn connections (versus only 2 at Hauptbahnhof). Walk one block down Weserstrasse to Kaiserstrasse, and use this street to walk to Hauptbahnhof. You've walked one extra block versus using Taunusstrasse and Kaiserstrasse is actually a busy, fun street that is enjoyable to walk down and take in the activity. Walk two blocks down Weserstrasse to Munchener Strasse and pick up a tram there. Any tram passing by (11, 12, 14 or 18) will take you to Hauptbahnhof (one direction) or Willy-Brandt Platz (the other direction). Weserstrasse is fine to walk down.
So, in reality, the hotel's location is really good. You can connect anywhere in the region quickly and easily, and it's easy to avoid the areas that are more questionable. Contrary to what some reviews have stated, I've never observed drug use near the entrance to the hotel.
As for other aspects of the hotel: -The breakfast is AMAZING...I'm still not sick of it even after three weeks. -The staff is always super-friendly and helpful -The hotel is, quite simply, run well. I've stayed in many Hilton hotels all over the world, and this actually one of the best I've stayed in as far as attention to detail and cleanliness. There are no neglected areas, everything is in good working order, and the staff is always moving to clean, help, and organize things. -The hotel doesn't advertise this, but it offers free guest laundry. -The cleaning staff has always gone above and beyond servicing my room.
I can't say enough positive things about my experience here thus far. I hope I "cleared the air" about the location and dispel some of the comments in other reviews. Yes, stay here. ...
Read moreThis is my third but final stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. The hotel management must have changed - its like a completely different hotel compared to a year ago. Last time? The staff was kind, friendly and helpful. This time? HOSTILE.||I was emailing in my room when the cleaning staff came to clean my room. I let two men in...and was hit by a massive wall of body odor. I sat quietly in the corner as they performed the most superficial of cleaning. One of the men's body odor was so strong it filled the room and lingered after they left.||I called downstairs to complain. I asked for nothing. I simply wanted the front desk manager to be aware of the problem. And here is where it gets crazy...||...twenty minutes later the cleaning staff's manager knocks on my door angrily. He starts grilling me. "Who are you to criticize my staff? I check my staff before every shift! My staff is clean! You don't know what you're talking about!"||I was naked at the door. I had to say to him twice "You realize I'm naked? I'm about to take a shower. Why do you think its appropriate to scold a customer?" He wasn't done, he wouldn't stop talking. So, I closed the door on him.||I called down to talk to the front desk manager. Unlike my previous call, I'm now frustrated. It's completely inappropriate for staff to come and scold a customer. Its even more inappropriate to refuse to let me dress. The anger, pride and confrontational nature of the cleaning staff's manager is unacceptable in any corner of the world.||The desk manager apologizes and claims it is an outside agency that cleans the hotel rooms. I refrain from saying "How is this my problem? And why does he know my hotel room? Why didn't you deal with it appropriately rather than DOX me by giving him my room number?"||I say "I would like one of my two rooms free for the night." He refuses. "I can't do that. All I can do is give you a complimentary buffet for your family." I accepted.||But, I visit Frankfurt twice a year...and I will never stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt City Centre again. If he'd waived my room fee for a single night I'd have happily paid for the other nights and for my son's second room. Instead? Being cheap means I'm going somewhere else.||There were other customer service issues as well. All were small and annoying. Overall, it added up to a staff that didn't seem to have any customer service training. Whomever took over this hotel in the last year should get out of the industry. This was a great...
Read moreThey are only getting 2 stars bc the front desk guys were nice and helpful.
We booked a room with a sofa bed and when we checked in didn’t get one. The front desk said the pictures on the website are deceiving 🤣-imagine telling a customer their own websites pictures of each room are not what you get?? He did move us to a room with a sofa bed but I would much rather get the room I booked the first time then wasting time and having to move rooms. The rooms weren’t very clean, dirty glasses, dirty windows, dirty curtains etc. When you have a toddler they touch EVERYTHING and it grosses me out thinking what is on the curtains, next to the bed that’s crusty and white….yuck!
Now on to the worst part of the hotel, the location. Other reviews said the red light district was a couple blocks away-FALSE-it’s actually on the same exact block of the hotel and you drive by it to park and get to the hotel. There was a completely naked woman standing in the street getting pictures taken and homeless people scattered all around. Walking or some just passed out along the street as you enter the car park. I would never have walked around alone much less with my child. The street is full of brothels and strip clubs. It’s sad to see and call me old fashioned but I don’t want to be around that or see any of it, much less have my child around that. It felt dirty everywhere and unsafe.
I advise you lock your doors bc the morning of check out my husband took our bag down to the car while I changed and man from I assume housekeeping just walked into my room as I was changing. He apologized but still, unacceptable and a complete violation of privacy. He did not knock bc he saw my husband walk out of the room with our child. An excuse to me bc you don’t walk into anyone’s hotel room without knocking and saying housekeeping. I told the front desk guy at checkout and he comped our parking but all in all I would never stay there again.
The car park is on the side of the hotel and it’s several floors down and VERY NARROW! I was sweating watching our suv try to squeeze through the ridiculously tight turns. It costs €30 to park but on your way out you understand it’s totally worth it. The exit takes you to a garage where one heavy duty door closes prior to the other garage door opening to let you exit. I presume it’s a safety measure from all of the homeless people laid out on the street but tells you how unsafe the...
