SAKURA Sushi Café — Restaurant in Frankfurt

I was there with someone else during lunch time on the weekend and the place was not full, so we could easily grap a table to sit. The atmosphere and interior is quite nice, they even have a terrace, where you can sit outside. The menu shows some variations of food, but in regards to sushi it is restricted to salmon, tuna, smoked eel, and vegetarian ones like with avocado. The reason might be on the missing availability of good and fresh quality of other fish. We ordered salmon sashimi, edamame, brown rice, miso soup, temaki as well as some nigiri sushi. The waiter was nice and honest. Actually, I was disappointed by the amount of tofu, chives and spring onions in the miso soup. There were no spring onions, two tiny pieces of tofu and you could search for the chives and count them by one hand. The brown rice was hard and not well cooked. The edamame was not cooked enough and quite hard. The sashimi, nigiri and temaki were fine. However it took quite a while to get the nigir sushi, which we additionally ordered later. I had a green tea, but it did not taste like it, taste was more like a grain tea, but without any taste, was more waterlike. The presentation of the food was good though, but also pricy, when you really want to get full. You can park nearby in a car park, but it is hard to get a parking slot in front of the restaurant. I was born from an Asian mother (yes with capital A), grew up with Asian values and was brought up to be considerate and respectful towards my community. There was a little bit of chaos today, which is by the way a few days after the restaurant businesses were allowed to open for dine-in in Frankfurt. Nevertheless it didn’t bother me at all as I was happy to witness people’s livelihood, which might have recently suffered, flourishing again.

Freedom of speech gives us the the right to write our honest review, nothing against that. But there’s no need to be passive aggressive with the service staff who’s basically just greeting you goodbye, after probably a long day at work. #Karen’s of Frankfurt unite.

We can be honest, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be kind as nowadays you don’t know the kind of cross people around us carry.

By the way concerning the food, Katy Perry would have been proud. Fireworks!!!...

Quality of products is very good, however, overpriced offer.

1. Sushi pieces are very small - smaller than average - so you have to order more sets/pieces and in the end you get a large bill - 30/35 euro
2. Offer of sushi rolls is rather strange - very complicated and unusual combinations, a lot of sauces above the rolls, no offer of classic rolls int he menu. However, you can ask to replace or remove some ingredients
3. It takes a lot of time to wait for the order and sets come with a significant time gap
4. Ice mochi are super tasty. However, they serve only a small fork with it - it's a bit difficult to cut them to smaller pieces and eat without a special knife.

I personally wouldn't go there for sushi again, because there are better offerings in frankfurt for such and even lower pricing. However, for a cup of tea with a dessert can be...
