I was in Hamburg for an overnight stay on my way to Norway and after a delayed train journey from Koln, I was in serious need of some good food. I went out to explore the neighbourhood and see what was locally available, I stumbled across Chingu, Kurze Mühren 13, which was a 5 min walk from where I was staying.
This is a small place with limited seating and feels more like a grab and go location rather than a sit comfortably and chill location, although the vybe, music and ambience was cool and welcoming.
I was greeted warmly by the staff who spoke fluent English, I proceeded to order 12 Korean Fried Chicken Bites and Nude Pommes (chips) to go, the food was freshly prepared and ready in 10-15 minutes. I went back to my apartment and enjoyed one of the best Korean BBQ meals I have ever had and definitely the best fried chicken meal, it was full of flavour, well-seasoned and generously proportioned.
I highly recommend Chingu in Hamburg and it is a short 10-minute walk from the Central Station (Hbf Hamburg) so even if you are not staying locally this is a great place for a pit stop as an alternative to the station-based...
Read moreFood was great. A bit disappointed that the Galbi burger didn’t actually come with pieces of Galbi (short rib). This was just a regular burger patty. The burger was delicious, but didn’t taste very Korean, and could have been sold at any other burger place. I’d expected a stronger Galbi marinade flavor or at least pieces of short rib. Could have been described better on the menu.
The bulgogi fries were so good and crispy.
The fried boneless chicken was also very good, but had a few pieces of bone/cartilage. We ordered the sweet chili chicken and the hot sauce on the side, but the hot sauce was not spicy at all and was more just a regular yangnyeom sauce. This could maybe be written differently on the menu. But tasted really good.
We also ordered some yuzu tea after mains, and even though it looked amazing in a porcelain bowl, it gets really hot and makes it very hard to hold and drink.
The chairs and table we had were a bit like camping equipment and by no means top comfortable. It also felt like you couldn’t lean on the table without it crashing.
All in all a very good experience with a few minor things. I’d...
Read moreI visited this Korean restaurant with my friend, and we had a mixed experience. I ordered the beef bibimbap, and she had the shrimp bibimbap. Unfortunately, my bibimbap was quite mediocre—the beef was very tough and not enjoyable. On the other hand, we also ordered Korean fried chicken, which was absolutely delicious! Definitely the highlight of the meal.
We also got homemade lemonade. However, we were a bit disappointed because, in places like this, drinks are usually served in nice glasses, but ours came in very basic ones. Later, we noticed that other guests received their drinks in much nicer glasses, which felt a little unfair.
The place itself is not very spacious, but the atmosphere is okay. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the food is served quickly. Overall, it was an okay experience—not bad, but not...
