This was our third visit to Kin Gui. This is a very stylish and beautiful Asian restaurant, conveniently located near Stadthausbrücke and adjacent to Hotel Tortue, with which it also is affiliated. If you come by car there is ample parking in one of the public parking structures or across the street if you’re lucky. The interior is very nice and it makes you feel quite relaxed. However, some of the chairs and sofas are absolutely terrible. They appear to be broken and you cannot sit on one for a long time. We heard several guests complaining about the bad chairs and couches. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Training seems be average, however, as there is a wide range of skills. We had four different waitresses taking orders during one meal, which was strange. They were all friendly but a couple of them made basic mistakes like clearing plates before we were done. The menu is extensive if you like California rolls. If you don’t, it is more limited. We tried pork ribs with kimchi rice, two different types of appetizers and crunchy, spicy salmon rolls. The food was very good, and the taste is excellent. The cocktail menu is very innovative with some that we have never seen elsewhere. The bar is right by the entrance, so there is a lot of traffic if you sit on the wrong side of the bar. The wine menu isn’t very extensive but sufficient for this type of food. The draft beer is Carlsberg, unfortunately (because of the corn additives in Carlsberg beer it really doesn’t go well with food… a German Pils would have been so much better), but there are bottles of Asahi offered as well. The dining experience at Jin Gui is very good, but for people who lived in Asia, like us, you may find the menu rather limited. That said, it’s one of the better Asian restaurants in Hamburg. Location: 5/5 Ambience: 3/5 (because of the lousy chairs) Food: 4/5 Staff: 4/5 Price/quality: 3/5 (rather expensive but good quality)

Top prices require top products and top service. Jin Gui does not meet this expectation. The fried shell of the salmon taco starter didn’t taste fresh and the salmon lacked flavor. Roll start around 20 Euros and go up to nearly 40. They are ok in size but lack in product quality. I had a spicy salmon roll. The „pulled“ salmon, whatever this means in terms of salmon had an texture I found dry and unpleasant. The spicyness of the tuna roll was unrefined and overpowering the rest of the flavours. A gyoza for 7 euro that tasted ok but not exceptional and is ridiculously overpriced. The bottle of sake sold for 125 Euros costs 38 Euros online. When I asked if the shrimp roll could made without a tempura coat I was informed that pure shrimps were not available. I would expect that a restaurant would use raw shrimps and do the tempura coating for esch roll freshly. The service was friendly but not knowledgeable about the products. We were not even give one wasabi portion each but had to share. An additional order was ignored. We got one amuse bouche for 6 people which was a small portion of cucumbers with a spicy sauce that lacked in depth. Cocktails were nice. I suppose most people go there because they can but not because they are into Asian cuisine.

Beautiful restaurant but lots of room to improve in CUSTOMER SERVICE and FOOD QUALITY, considering the PRICE per ticket and comparing with another Japanese restaurants like NOBU And ZUMA. We were 2 people. We had scallops dim sum, watermelon gazpacho, spicy tuna taco, miso eggplant as starters. Up to that point food was ok but nothing extraordinary, drinks were fantastic though. (shiso smashed 🔝) We got really DISAPPOINTED when we received the Truffle beef tartare roll because it had ZERO truffle taste at all (which we all know this flavor is very hard to not recognize for its distinctive aroma and flavor). At the same time we received the loupe de mere sashimi in Ponzu sauce, another DISAPPOINTING dish coz the fish was flooded in Olive oil which made impossible to get the tangy citrus flavor from the ponzu. We called the manager to explain the situation and she took the plate (beef tartare roll) saying she was gonna check with the chef. There were 3 chefs at the sushi counter and when the manager explained to them the situation they LAUGHED at us and starting to look at us in a funny way, which I found it very disrespectful. The lady never comeback to us explaining the situation, was Kim (our server, tall German lady) who came to us giving us the menu in a very RUDE way and asking us to pick a different roll. I have to a knowledge that she walked away while I was trying to give my constructive feedback back. SHAME because as a chef I see the potential that JIN GUI has as a restaurant and disrespectful gestures make definitely customers not...

Please take your money elsewhere, the treatment my partner and I were given does not correspond at all with the prices of this restaurant. The restaurant had stated clearly their policies in Open Table about the time we were allowed to be seated. However, when we arrived we were greeted with that we would have to leave sooner due to that they had another reservation on our table afterwards. I responded by showing them their policies stating we were allowed to stay longer but they responded that by saying that “It’s an estimate and it’s also a busy weekend”. I was quite surprised and upset by how they can change their policies at any moment for their own benefit at the expense of our experience. We felt as we were being kicked out when we had not even started dinning, ruining the entire night. Service was also poor since no one was asking if we were missing something and when we asked for something it would often arrive quite late. We shared these comments with a waiter and she stated that if we would’ve mentioned something in the beginning they are sure they would’ve found a solution, but this makes no sense at all since we were just told right from the beginning that we would need to leave sooner without them giving us an alternative from the very start. I am sure the quality of their dishes is exceptional, however for their prices, the flavor is...
