Sands Bar — Restaurant in Hamburg

Amazing location. Amazing cocktails. Worst service in town. The service makes you want to apologize for ordering a drink and you can forget about getting a good table in the place, unless you’re an older gentleman willing to pay for extra service (if you know what I mean). There’s plenty of that to go around if that’s your kind of thing. We waited for over 3 hours to get a table outside just to see group after group of older men get the best tables soon to be joined by younger women. When asked if I could sit outside (twice) I always got 100% attitude and no straight answer. Ich möchte eine unangenehme Erfahrung teilen, die ich in dieser Bar gemacht habe. Ich kam alleine, einfach um den Abend in Ruhe zu verbringen, vielleicht etwas zu trinken und den Tag ausklingen zu lassen. Statt eines freundlichen Empfangs oder zumindest neutraler Behandlung wurde ich jedoch mit offener Ablehnung konfrontiert.

Schon beim Eintreten hatte ich das Gefühl, dass ich nicht willkommen bin. Ein Mitarbeiter – ob Kellner oder Türsteher, weiß ich nicht genau – machte mir ziemlich schnell klar: „Allein kommt man hier nicht rein.“ Am Ende wurde ich einfach hinausgebeten. Ohne Erklärung, ohne ein Gespräch, einfach so. „Tut uns leid, aber das geht nicht.“

Ich war weder betrunken noch auffällig, ordentlich gekleidet, habe mich ruhig verhalten – warum also dieses Verhalten? Die Bar war nicht einmal voll – es gab noch viele freie Plätze. Was genau habe ich falsch gemacht? Nur weil ich alleine kam?

Für mich ist dieses Verhalten inakzeptabel. In einer modernen Stadt im 21. Jahrhundert sollte es doch möglich sein, auch alleine in eine Bar zu gehen, ohne sich rechtfertigen zu müssen. Was ich hier erlebt habe, war diskriminierend und unfreundlich. Statt Gastfreundschaft – nur ein schlechter Nachgeschmack und das Gefühl, einfach vor die Tür gesetzt worden zu sein.

Wer Wert auf respektvollen Umgang legt, sollte sich gut überlegen, ob er diesem Ort einen Besuch abstattet. Ich komme jedenfalls...

I loved the outside area of this bar. It's nice that is close to the park, not too much noise or city lights.

There are several cocktails options which are slightly pricy but, if you go during a ,,happy hour" the price becomes very attractive.

The staff was good and they offered spicy peanuts🥜 as a courtesy, which are great to to with drinks.

Another great fact about the bar is that they are open on Sundays.
