Green Papaya — Restaurant in Hamburg

I used to come to this restaurant once in a while. But I will not be coming back after yesterday. Food was ok but their older waiter is horrible. I asked to sit outside he said no (it was warm enough). Brought me the food, I was hungry ate quickly, he started making faces at that. But then the forced tip experience came (and my dish was already super expensive). He keyed the amount at me and waved the machine. I hated the rude service so I said no. He refused to accept it. I still said no. I will NOT be guilted into paying a tip for service I disliked. He reluctantly accepted, making a show and making me feel bad.

I will not come again.

EDITED AFTER REPLY: all my comments are mine. my experience, not "inspired" by others, and that again is hilariously rude. Your service is rude, dear restaurant. I used to like the food but learn to treat your customers...

24/7/23. Just returned after a meal with The family. (2adults+2kids). This is a place we have been returning to every time we have stayed in Hamburg. This used to be really good. This time we were disappointed. Understandably, prices were up, but the service and quality were down. Chicken bad quality and every plate filled with things that was only for show. The quality of the food had changed for worse. Finally the waiter, Who we remembered serving us various times before, directly asked for a tip which made it really awkward. He basically decided What we were tipping! Rude! Give the direct change back and let people decide on the tip before leaving. Dont ask for a tip and decide for yourself! Because of this, we will not be back....

The place wasn't packed during our visit for a weekend lunch, so we could easily secure a table with the sofa (great for kids).

Food and drinks were served shortly after we've placed our order. I particularly enjoyed the Citrus-Ginger house mix; it's served in a clear glass mug generously filled with fruits plus herbs (mint, ginger), really tasty & refreshing!

Food-wise we ordered Pho for mains (rice noodles in soup broth) and shared a platter of sushi. I polished my Pho quickly, though mainly it's due to my hunger rather than the delicious of the noodles.

In summary, it's a decent place to grab asia food if you're in the area without...
