Came to BLB for my boyfriend‘s birthday dinner. We were seated in the courtyard, which had a lovely atmosphere to it. Lots of greenery, colorful fairy lights – polished yet cozy. Waitstaff were remarkably friendly and attentive.
When I made the reservation on Open Table, I mentioned my celiac disease as it‘s important to give a heads-up to restaurants in advance to ensure a safe dining experience. Upon our arrival, however, the receptionist (who was as courteous as his colleagues) admitted he saw the note but had no idea what celiac means. I would have greatly appreciated a quick call or message – or even a simple Google search – to clarify in advance. I believe it can be expected of any restaurant, especially one of this price category, to at least be aware of rather common dietary requirements.
The regular menu does not contain any allergen information, but it was stated on the first page that a separate allergen menu was available. However, the waiter said it was currently being revised and therefore unavailable. Unfortunately, the waiter lacked knowledge of which items on the menu were or could be made gluten-free. As it turned out, there didn‘t even seem to be a general understanding of what it meant.
We ordered a shared starter of the mini lobster cocktail and burger, as it was assured that at least the lobster cocktail would be safe to eat. However, it arrived with a fried topping I assumed to be fried onions, which traditionally contain wheat flour. When mentioning this to the waiter, no offer of a replacement was made. A few minutes later, he came back to tell me it would have been safe for me to eat after all, because the topping consisted of fried wan tan. Wan tan dough is made of wheat flour and therefore would have made me quite sick. This goes to show how uninformed staff unfortunately are.
Another thing I didn‘t appreciate: the cocktail waiter came to our table to recommend the cocktail of the day. We did not express any desire in trying it, yet a few minutes later it was brought to our table regardless and of course ended up on the bill.
Eventually I ordered the Hulk lettuce burger with a side of roasted veggies (waiter did not know whether or not fries contained gluten). It was quite tasty! I enjoyed the sharp cheese and smooth avocado cream. The veggies were a tad bland and the burger patty had a fair bit of cartilage. All in all, I was expecting a bit more for the price, but the quality of the ingredients was fair.
I would certainly come back to try more of their dishes, but the service quality in terms of allergy consciousness needs a lot of improvement. Great upscale place for a date night or celebration. If you‘re fortunate enough to be able to eat all foods, definitely...
Read moreBurger & Lobster Bank is probably the most fun restaurant in Munich, the best time to go is on the weekends for dinner followed by drinks. They have a DJ and super cool music, it's super buzzy and the vibe is great. In the summer their outdoor courtyard tends to be packed as well. Went for dinner this week on a weeknight and it was somewhat busy, my only complaint is that there was NO music, at least none that I heard. I asked the waiter about it and he assured me that there was music in the background but I really couldn't hear any and last time I checked my hearing still worked. I personally find that chatter in a restaurant without music just sounds droning, with music it sounds like a fun buzz.
In terms of food, their grilled lobster is good and if you're in the mood for a burger, you must order their BLB burger, it is awesome! Rather junky but a total treat, don't bother counting calories. We also had their fish of the day which was excellent. The only disappointment other than the lack of music were the padron peppers, they were coated with baked cheese, there's absolutely no need for that! They make a decent Bloody Mary and also have a nice wine list.
Burger & Lobster Bank is pretty much one of the few restaurants in town that ends up turning loungey on the weekends, so that's why this should be on your list of coolest...
Read moreLet me start off by saying, this place is a fun vibe! They accept card and the atmosphere was nice with a live DJ. BUT… with that said, don’t expect the food to be top-quality. I ordered the beef tartar and found the portion size to be really small. Although it’s a starter dish, the price to food ratio doesn’t justify how pricey it was for what you get when you can get more food for the same dish in Paris. The truffle fries were probably my only favorite dish I ate that night. The restaurant has a variety of great drinks and I enjoyed my cocktail, but I felt the restaurant only really cared to make a profit off drinks (as if it’s a club ordering bottle service). I went for my friend’s birthday and we weren’t even notified by our waiter before the kitchen closed for us to order a dessert to sing her happy birthday so the only option suggested was to either pay for a Champagne bottle (that wasn’t a suitable option) or cocktail (along with a sparkler). It’s surely a one-time experience place. Unless, you are looking for a drinks and live DJ...
