My husband and I had planned our last night in Munich with a reservation at Augustiner Klosterwirt. Unfortunately, the entire experience was not only incredibly disappointing, but we did not get to eat anything for dinner our last night in Germany. We were first seated inside, which was stuffy and very hot with no air circulation. We immediately asked the hostess if we could move to an outside table and she was very accommodating in moving us quickly. Given the hostess reaction we were hopeful that the service and food would match her attentiveness. Our server Rosa was not as customer service oriented. We are not drinkers and she was pushing us to order alcohol, it felt as if she got a commission on alcohol sales. We asked for ice for our soda and she chuckled and never brought the ice. Things took a sharp turn when the food arrived 4 minutes after ordering and cold. We still remained quiet and wanted to hope the taste of food and flavors compensated. I took a bite of the beef roast and as I was chewing felt something sharp and hard in my mouth, I was actually concerned I somehow broke a tooth. I removed the piece from my mouth and it stuck straight up and down into my finger as it was a shard of glass. I had never experienced anything like this before, my husband jumped up to get Rosa our server and when she and the manager came over they took the glass, the plate and asked why we had “probst” (cheers) over our food. We do not even drink and did not “probst ” our water glasses. The manager insisted on bringing out a new plate for me but at that point we had lost our appetites and just wanted the check to leave. We asked the server, the manager, and the hostess for the check. After five minutes, Rosa came back and said she had forgotten to get our ice and would get it now. We reminded Rosa that we just wanted to pay, no food to go, we were done eating and wanted to leave. At that point Rosa handed us our check and we paid the full bill. I would not spend your time or hard earned money at this restaurant, we were so saddened by this experience on our last...
Read moreThe food was amazing, but wouldn't go again because of the extremely poor service. This could be the worst dining experience we have had.
We were given the German menu at first, and we asked for English menu. The server response was "You need to say hi or hey at the beginning, so that I know you need English menu." That wasn't the response we were expecting, as most servers would just say "No problem, I will bring it to you."
We are a group of 4. One of us was not feeling well that day and we are not big eaters. Considering the big portion served in this restaurant, we ordered a full pork knuckle (there is a half portion option on the menu, so we assume a full portion would be sufficient for 2 people), a sausage platter (another main course) and 2 bowls of soup for sharing. The server showed his dissatisfaction about the food portion that we ordered.
When the food was served, we kindly asked for 4 small plates so that we could share the food. The server refused to bring us the plates, and said this is not the way that they serve the customers. Meanwhile, he placed the plate of pork knuckle (which we originally placed in the middle of the table ready for sharing) to right in front of one of us, and was saying this is the Traditional way they serve. This is obviously accusing us of not ordering one main dish per person. While we appreciate that this is the common way to order food, we do not agree that this is a rule that must be followed, as there is no indication of any minimum charge in this restaurant. Moreover, we do not want to blindly follow this common way and end up with so much food waste.
During the conversation, the server even attempted to collect a bowl of soup that we have not finished. It is so rude to collect any plate or tableware before asking the customers if they still need them. It is even more rude, when there is almost one-third of the soup left in the bowl, and he still tried to collect it.
Overall, we all agree the food was so good, but we would not risk to pay to get...
Read moreI went to this restaurant on Sunday May 18 with my mother where we purchased one of the beef broth soups, a schnitzel, and some sausages. The broth and schnitzel came out within 30 minutes. After us sharing the schnitzel for a bit another 20 minutes had passed and we asked our server if she had remembered the sausage and she said it was coming. With that being said, we waited another 15 to 20 minutes and no sausage appeared along with no message or note from our server. We also watched as multiple people around us that were served food, desserts, and got their bills way before us even though they came long after us Our servers name was Julia (not the kindest). after waiting almost an hour for this meal. I ended up asking her to take it off the bill which she did not even apologize for she just said OK. When the bill came, I explained to her how disappointed I was with the fact that I did not get my meal and she had no message to give and she couldn’t even give us an answer all she said was “ I spoke with my colleague and he said it was coming” it’s almost felt like we were dragging an apology out of her after this we ended up, going to speak to the manager to explain to him our experience where he proceeded to tell us he doesn’t understand what we’re saying, and when I explained to him that I felt like it was some form of discrimination. He proceeded to get very loud with us and become very combative. We left the restaurant very disappointed, and with that being said the way the manager dealt with the whole situation, it left us even more upset. As someone who is in the restaurant business It is so disappointing to see that this is how they have chosen to deal with our issue. If I were traveling back to Munich, I would not go back to this establishment ever again, completely...
