Mariannenhof — Restaurant in Munich

Looking for a casual place for try not too far from our hotel, we came across Mariannenhof on google Reviews. Cross referencing it with TripAdvisor reviews, this looked like a place that was being well received by both locals and travellers. So we decided to give them a try for their Marinated Ribs from Hell which we found mentioned quite a few times by past diners. It was a very good choice for the evening.

We arrived around 8pm on a weekday evening, finding Mariannenhof quite full. However, just being a couple, they were able to squeeze us in without reservations. It was World Cup time so there was a big screen TV on showing the match. Friends and families were enjoying the casual place at this time of the evening.

As mentioned, we ordered the large portion (1.3-1.4 kg) Ribs from Hell and a couple rounds of drinks. When the waitress took our order, she emphasised that these ribs were really, really hot. We thought this was just a courtesy but she was right. They were indeed hot but also very tasty.

The ribs were marinated in a sort of spicy hot BBQ sauce before grilling. The sauce was loaded with chilli seeds, giving your mouth a real burn while delivering very nice flavour. Ribs texture was good, meat had to be carved off the bone or simply eaten with two hands. A small cup of extra 'hot' dipping sauce was also good, wish there would have been more as we really liked the sauce too.

Overall, we really enjoyed our rib dinner at MariannenHof. Surprised at how hot our order ended up being. We left happy and will full tummies, feeling like they have a really good sauce recipe for ribs, something we very much look forward to trying again during future...

Ok food, terrible service.

Told by a friend to visit here. Not so busy during a Sunday evening but seemed like short of staff.

Got there 7:16pm, wasn’t asked what to drink to start with until 7:30 and not even asked about what to order for the main course.

Around 7:49 another server finally realized that I have been sitting there for a while and already feel disgusted. He asked me have I ordered a beer and served me after just 3 minutes.

Also I told the server that I was ready to order around 7:25 because no one asked me what to order. But answer was always ‘one moment please’ and I wasn’t even sure how many ‘moments’ passed as I looked at the time and it was another some 20-25 minutes, that the server walked passed me numerous times finally stopped by and asked me what to order.

Food was finally served around 8:10 pm and I was there already for an hour.

The food was ok, like not the best but still decent ribs. The fries wasn’t good enough and tasted like over baked and kinda hollow. The beer was pretty good.

The second server apologized about the service when I got the check but still had the gut to ask for a tip. I gave 5% because he was actually way better than the first server.
