We came here for dinner with friends who have been here a few times before. The restaurant itself is very nice located in an old building with high ceilings and is split onto two levels. The smaller level is like an attic space with a few tables and the main restaurant is where most of the tables are and the kitchen. It was very echoey here and it was too difficult to hear the waitresses or people opposite to me at our table. I had to crane my neck to hear the conversation a lot.
Menu was a tasting style menu which could also be ordered as a la carte it you so chose. There was a four course vegetarian or a five course normal menu. I chose the five course menu and the food was good albeit overpriced. The mezze was great, fish course really good and the beef was cooked to perfection but, the jus was far too salty for my liking, and I like salt :-) the dessert was unfortunately not good at all and I ended up eating some chocolate when we got home. I would happily have just ordered the mezze as a starter / main course.
Wine list is good and we had some good wines here that are reasonably priced. Service was prompt, friendly and good albeit slightly uncoordinated. There was a lot of staff for a smallish restaurant and limited menu. Prices were similar or slightly higher to Michelin starred restaurants although this restaurant does not have one. It’s a contender but the flavors need to be braver to get there. All in all a good experience and great night. They do make a mean...
Read moreReally well-rounded restaurant in a beautiful setting with a fine-dining approach that stays casual but also quite far below Michelin level.
The dining room and the service are great. Beautiful and comfortable decor and just the right amount of space between the tables. Really warm lighting. Friendly and attentive service (could be a bit more personal and with a nicer door-greeting, however) and a good pacing.
The menus do look interesting, especially the mezze concept is greatly executed, but lack quite a bit in choices. I hope they change the menus regularly to keep the restaurant interesting.
While the seasoning was great, quite a few ingredients on the dishes just didn't work with each other and the preparation of certain products was just slightly off, which resulted in many dishes tasting quite "average". Many courses on the menu did not impress either, since you felt like you have eaten them many times in similar establishments before. Especially the main dishes lacked creativity and complexity of flavors.
This is by no question a wonderful restaurant for a nice occasion with great food. But the setup and the prices do hint towards the wish of a Michelin star, and for that, Pageou sadly is...
Read moreBooked a table for dinner with great anticipation to celebrate our son’s 21st birthday. Food was fabulous - the venison was utterly perfect and the setting, quite lovely. The night however was almost ruined by stunningly appalling service which began at the door (we had to find a waiter to take us to our table!). The dye was truly cast when our appointed waiter dismissed our request for a drinks menu with a flick of the wrist as though we’d asked for a copy of the current McFlurry specials. Our table was immediately downgraded as we declined the “aperitif glass of champagne each” up-sell, settling instead for some sparkling water and a €120 bottle of Pinot. The water came and was slopped at great speed into each glass and the wine was treated with the same disregard (I had to wipe the base of my glass because he’d spilt wine down the stem!). We were then left to sit and wait for a menu for 15 minutes while the neighbouring tables (who opted for the guess-the-price-aperitif), were fawned over with simpering deference. Had it not been such an important evening, I’d have asked for the bill and left. Shame, because the kitchen got...
