Starbucks — Restaurant in Munich

My current simple recommendation to the visitora: go to any Italian restaurant or an ice cream shop nearby instead, they will have better coffee, more mature service, cleaner ambiente.

I used to be a liker of Starbucks, taking there a Latte Machiatto to go once in a while, or spending there a break in a walk with a friend of mine. I have the Starbucks app and even a set of own cups with a cool Christmas motive. Unfortunately, the expirience in all Starbucks branches degraded significantly, with this shop being a good example of how, let me just briefly leave here a note to the management, with the hope it will help you to recover the once great company.

1/ Long waiting times, poor drinks. The service people hired in the 3 branches in big German cities I've been to are of similar lack of motivation and training. A. They have no idea how to make coffee, which is their core task. They miss right volumes of the drink, miss temperature cooking the drinks boiling, they are geballt not sure what they do. Do they have barista training at all? I needed to come back to the counter last three times asking for corrections. B. The stuff is generally disinterested in customers, they are busy don't their boilerplate, carrying things around, cleaning maybe. After coming to a counter I wait ages seeing how just one person cooks, and others walk being tired showing no interest in the new customer at the counter. It's the slowest way to get a code to go I know of currently. C. The staff is not train to know how to use the app. Whenever the app fails to open, see the next point, they are helpless, not knowing what to do about it, and just telling that it happens often.

Now, don't get me wrong, all these shortcomings come for sure from the lack of good hiring, bad training, lack of process. It makes not only customers, but also the employees unhappy. It is not the fault of the poor students you hire, Starbucks.

2/ The tables and the toilets are in such a filthy state in all of the Starbucks branches I know. I'm particular here in Odeonsplatz, the tables feel fatty, with a layer of schmutz on them, they are likely cleaned with a dirty cloth, no detergent, once in a day. I don't know how to organize the cleaning well, but I do know that I do not want to eat in such a place. It used to be my occasional date place, now I just feel homeless there.

The app is slow and very often not working. The android app starts painfully slow when you are at the desk. So take the infinite time while waiting in the queue to open the app, it needs all of the time. The app also breaks, requiring me to delete its data and cache and then relogin for the payment function to work again. It is NOT the app problem, it is again the company problem, the business process behind the app is a disaster. How can you charge in advance, taking money in the app, and then let the app simply not working for payments with my money stuck in your accounts? I'm afraid to think it's intentional, to influence the company's cash reserves. Likely though it's stupidity, you did not test for failed paying attempts at the shop with the app, and you did not integrate it well so that the payment could still be done with the money taken, even if the app is not working. I had 30$ stuck there for a year at least before figuring out how to make it work again.

Anyway, I used to come for great drinks, quick and friendly service, okay cleanliness. It's all okay now. Sorry, but never again. I'm also...

Good Coffee, But Be Prepared to Wait

I've visited this Starbucks location several times, and while the coffee is consistently good, there are a few challenges that make each visit less enjoyable.

Service: The main issue is the wait time. This Starbucks is busy almost all the time, so be prepared to wait in line for a while to place your order and then wait even longer to get your drink. It’s clear that the staff is doing their best, but they seem a bit overwhelmed by the constant rush of customers. More staff during peak hours could help speed things up.

Communication: Another challenge is communication. If you don't speak the local language fluently, ordering can be a bit of a struggle. English isn't widely spoken here, and it's sometimes difficult to get your order right without some back-and-forth. It would be helpful if there were more English-speaking staff members or at least a menu in English to make the ordering process smoother for tourists and non-native speakers.

Overall: This Starbucks serves the same great coffee you'd expect, but patience is definitely required. If you're in a hurry or don’t speak the local language well, you might find the experience frustrating. However, if you have some time to spare and enjoy people-watching while you wait, this could still be a good spot to grab your...

It is only because of the appalling state of Munich's wifi cafes that I even keep returning to this toxic waste dump of a café. I agree with the other reviewer's comments on the bathrooms. There is almost NEVER soap in the bathroom (hello Munich health authorities - isn't this a basic violation of sanitary health rules??). And they are uniformly filthy (that is when they are actually working).

On a positive note, service is indifferent and sometimes pleasant (which is a positive statement, given the overall state of service in Munich).

In no other city do I need to visit starbcks regularly. I've found wifi cafes in Uganda and Bangladesh with far higher standards of cleanliness and customer service. I am forced to work here, because, sadly, there are few options in Munich.

So two stars for location, availability of outlets, wifi and a staff that generally isn't rude. And in terms of availability of interesting drinks, it doesn't exist outside...
