We went to the restaurant to have their daily special lunch menu at around 13:00ish and it was already sold out. Apparently it’s so popular without a reservation it’s difficult to get it. We had to wait for a while until a table opens up because it was already full. The staff was quite friendly and we had a great food there. Everything we tasted was authentic and it reminded me of the good time I had back in Japan. Staff is Japanese and the chef is also Japanese. Everything they have on the menu is authentic so it cannot be more legit than this. The dessert (daifuku) they had was pre-maid/packaged stuff that you can get from a supermarket so I was a bit disappointed about it. Still, it’s worth coming back to this cosy place for the absolute tasty meal. :)
Update: We badly wanted to try out their special Bento so this time I called them to book a table and told them we all want to order a special Bento. A girl who answered the phone told me she could speak Japanese so we were talking in Japanese on the phone. She double-checked with the kitchen side if the special bento is still available and confirmed that they were. When we got there, even though we reserved a table, we had to stand there for a while, completely unattended. The girl who was at the counter did not even greet back at us or did not come to us to check if we were taken care of. After a good 10 mins or so I went to the girl and told her about our reservation. It turned out that they thought our order was for a take-away and told us that the special bento is sold out. We told them we specially reserved it on the phone, as well as a table. The girl said she will check, and they put us on a table where usually bonsai were placed. We waited for a long time like good 30 mins without menu. A very kind lady (probably owner) apologised to us and brought us menu cards which was a surprise to us because we thought we would get an answer whether or not they could still provide us the special bento. When we explained that to the lady, she said she would double-check with the kitchen. Then we had to wait for another 30 mins or so, not knowing whether or not the special bento is available. We almost gave up and that was when staffs came to serve us the special bento. The lady apologised again and again, and she was very attentive and kind. She even brought us really tasty match ice cream on the house to make up for it. The special bento we finally had was absolutely tasty and it is really authentic, 100% Japanese. It is probably the most authentic Japanese food I have ever eaten in Europe which made me really happy. Since their food is consistent, and always really good, I will not reduce the number of stars but I cannot say I had a pleasant experience the second time I was there. Obviously the girl on the phone did not understand what I said in Japanese and even between the girl and the other staff it seemed there was a lack of...
Read moreTo be honest, I do not really get the raving good reviews. This is my second time here. The first time we ordered takeout via Lieferando, Teritori Don (teriyaki chicken) and the rice itself were dry and chicken did not have much flavours to it. The second time we went to the shop 10 mins before 12pm, thinking to try their Sukiyaki Don and daily lunch bento set, only to be told that they were all sold out (seriously?). Not only that, daifuku was also not available. They were already sold out by noon, how could it be? Also, service was incredibly slow. We were told to be seated and they would come take our orders at the table. We waited for 15mins before someone actually came to attend to us. The couple sitting next to us was somehow allowed to order at the counter (inconsistent treatment?). About the food, this time around we ordered (again) Teritori Don and Soba noodle soup. Teritori Don was (again) disappointing. Rice and chicken were dry. The rice had some hard and dry bits in it. Chicken tasted like boiled chicken coated simply in teriyaki sauce. Soba noodle soup was not bad. To some, the deep fried onions may be a nice twist to the dish, but a dish with delicate and subtle flavours, I feel like I am only tasting deep fried onions in the broth. FYI, in Japan, they don't serve Soba noodle soup with deep fried onions. Maybe my taste buds have been spoilt from living in Japan for a few years. Nonetheless, it is a refreshing change for Munich to have such a cute and interesting Japanese restaurant that serves homecooked that is not...
Read moreI love their ichigo daifuku, the strawberry mochi. I really want to know where do they give these large, juicy and sweet strawberries. Do they home grow it because I've rarely found strawberries at the supermarket that are this high quality. I haven't been to Japan but I've heard the quality of strawberries there, although expensive, are one of the most delicious in the world. I'd be shock if they import this from Japan but they've definitely met the Japanese standards for strawberries! The mochi is so soft, i think it's freshly made because the store bought mochi has some preservatives and the texture isn't as soft and tender as this. In terms of food, I've gotten their Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) bento box which is available every Saturday. It's definitely not fresh, hot off the oil fried chicken since it's a bento lunch box so it's cold. I prefer fresh hot fried chicken but I can't deny that the seasoning is right on. The chicken is moist and flavorful so i really enjoyed it as a bento box option. I hate dry chicken so i give points here for the juiciness. They also offer small snacks if you're only a tad bit hungry like onigiri (rice balls). My personal favorite is the...
