Ambrosia - Souvlaki — Restaurant in Athens

Update:

My wife children and I visited today 10/09/25 and fully expected the service and food we had received so many times before.

Sadly, we had an awful experience. The brunette waitress (whom I had not seen before) was brusque when I sat down and things went from bad to worse. She became plain rude, slamming plates down at the table, bringing out the wrong dishes and then rolling her eyes when asked for what we actually ordered.

The whole evening was horrible. Additionally, I was charged for bread I did not order and the "complimentary" water.

I spoke with the cashier who although pleasant seemed completely disinterested.

To make matters even worse, the rude waitress was engaging in an argument with my upset wife and daughter as I was inside!

The woman has undone over twenty years of positive experiences in a single service. She is ghastly.

Sadly, we are very unlikely to return and I will amend my rating accordingly.

Awful.

The first time I visited was over twenty years ago. Little has changed apart from the prices (which very remain reasonable).

The gyros (pork and chicken) are splendid value and very filling. Eggplant salad fantastic.

This is an out of the way gem that should certainly be visited if...

The food was nice but the service was extremely disappointed. That was the first clue when the owner? and the waitress argued with each other who take the order from us. The cigarette break (inside the restaurant!!!) was look like more important then the service. Then the old gentlemen (manager?)bloody don't care about our order. I ordered some sauce and ask something about the menu, but the guy was ignored the questions. Everyone was looked at us with a grumpy face and finally, when my girlfriend asked the waitress about this she said: of course, don't worry. I am working in the hospitality industry 7 years. I never felt myself so embarrassed in the restaurant. The conclusion: they really want your money and they don't care about the service. Been here a handful of times, each time I've come their standards have dropped, their portion sizes on certain items which I've consistently ordered have consistently DECREASED in size whilst their prices have unjustifiably INCREASED and the customer service from certain staff members(the blonde lady, the one who does not wear glasses who sits behind the cash register)was appalling. Gave me attitude when I politely asked to pay. Wouldn't have thought that attempting to pay for my sub-par meal and service would cause such an inconvenience. It's a shame that as a reviewer, I have to at least put one 1 star where it's not even deserved because to be honest I was looking for the 0 star option in the fields I've inputted but it's not available, UNFORTUNATELY, which is probably the word that best describes my...
