First off, the restaurant looks fab decor wise which I think is what enticed my boyfriend. However, once seated, my experience was incredibly disappointing - it was awful from start to finish. We waited more than 20 minutes for our drinks orders alone to be taken, meaning someone that came in after us had not only ordered and received their drinks, but also their food before we’d even spoken to the waiter! Coffee was lukewarm but otherwise tasted fine. Food was absolutely awful. I eat pretty much anything but it really was bad- an entirely cold eggs benedict with something that definitely wasn’t a hollandaise sauce (also cold but this is seemingly deliberate.) the muffin was saturated in oil and I’m not even sure what the ham was, but it just wasn’t good. Every element was just wrong. I’m really not one to complain so I didn’t say anything and chose to just not eat it and pay. I wasn’t asked why 95% remained on my plate (I was actually grateful for this, but just found it a little odd.) From my experience, I really wouldn’t recommend, but maybe it was just an off morning. There are much better places within a minutes walk.

We actually enjoyed the food and ambience here but what sort of ruined it was that at the end our server asked for a tip when I was paying by card. I did my research and also asked others who have holidayed in Athens and all sources said that there’s no tipping culture in Greece. But since this was our first meal in Greece, I was taken off guard and chose the 10% tip option. Also, it was awkward to say no when she was standing right there and staring at what I would choose. After that, all throughout our 7-day Greece trip, no other restaurant asked for a tip. At this point I thought it was a bit sus, so asked a local and she said only tourist traps ask for tips and they target diners who look very foreign, which we clearly do, we’re Asian. Look, I don’t mind tipping if the service was outstanding, but at Folk it was just… fine. It took quite a while to get their attention to order and get the bill even though the restaurant was quite empty. They also cleared some of our plates and cutlery when we were still halfway through our desserts.

I recently dined at Folk and was pleasantly greeted by a very kind and friendly host who took the time to make chit chat with us. Kudos to them for their swift service, which added to the overall positive experience. The interior design really caught my eye; it exuded a fresh, modern, and stylish vibe that sets the mood just right. However, I was slightly disappointed to find out that they were in the process of changing their menu, missing out on some of their popular menu highlights, like the Buddha Bowl. While the food was undeniably tasty, I found it lacking that unique touch to make it stand out. For what it was, the price felt a tad steep, especially considering the somewhat basic nature of the dishes. Adding more variety to their menu might just be the spark Folk needs to elevate the dining experience. Update: I visited again after some time and there was clear improvement on the menu. I also appreciated the fact that they served gluten-free bread!
