Tried the Birria(beef), pollo(chicken), and Al Pastor(pork) tacos. My experience with mexican food is limited, but this place for sure is a great option for Tacos. I read that the tortillas used are all handmade, and they appeared to be so. They were crispy, having a crunch on the outside with a nice subtle corn flavor, great. I wasn't sure which taco was which when I got served, but as I ate each one I think I knew which one was which. I tried the pollo taco first. With a small dose of the avocado sauce and mild hot sauce that the owner(I think Mr. Poncho himself) told me about, I had my first bite. First impression was that the chicken was seasoned strongly, maybe too salty for my tastebuds as the sauce seemed to overpower the meat a bit which was not exactly what I hoped for. When I finished this taco, it was still great and I enjoyed it but the seasoning of the chicken was a just a tad bit too salty for me. Birria was next, this one was the best. I've tried a birria taco before in another Mexican chain here in Greece so I knew what flavors to expect. This birria taco was great, best one I tried so far. The seasoning/marinade was slightly sweet and salty, just the right amount to not be overpowering the beef. I'd say the must try of Poncho's Tacos is the birria. Last but not least, the pork taco. Unfortunately, similar issue to the pollo taco, it was a little too salty for me. This time, I also put in the extra hot sauce which was indeed spicy but not overbearingly so. However, I think that this may have not been the best idea to put in so much as the spicyness with the saltiness made the taco a bit too overbearing in terms of flavor, but this was my fault, not on the taco itself. Nevertheless, pork was alright, but personally it was just a little bit unbalanced in terms of flavors with the salt. All tacos had toppings of cilantro, onions, and tomato which provided a much needed refreshing flavor to the tacos. The veges were all fresh. Overall, the tacos here are great, but I guess my tounge is just not right for the sodium level of the seasoning here. I'd say the reviews I read may have backfired on me from the high expectations I created of the tacos. I thought the tacos here would be the best ever/extraordinary, but sadly I would not say that they were. However, don't let this deter you! I still highly recommend this location, just know to not expect revalutionary tacos. A little bit underwhelming, but still highly recommend.

The handmade tortillas are worth the stop alone, but bring in the passionate owner/chef Poncho and your meal just became unforgettable. We loved our meal at Poncho, with Poncho, yes he sat down with us and shared a drink. With an incredibly authentic simple menu, he is able to execute perfect tacos each and every time… we had 15 between 2 people! What separates this experience are those exceptional (albeit possibly the best I’ve ever had) corn tortillas. Poncho hand makes them with his daughter and you can taste his love and culture through every bite. Great food, great company, and memories to last a lifetime. What more could you ask for? This is what life is all about. Don’t miss this spot when visiting Athens!

Unbelievable spot for tacos al pastor. If I could give ten pinche estrellas I would. Owner-chef Poncho hails from Michoacán, where slow-cooked carnitas originated, and though I don’t know for sure I swear that I could taste a hint of that technique in these spectacularly crispy-on-the-outside bites of pork, grilled pineapple and heavenly corn tortillas. Also try them with cheese—gringa style. Wish I were staying longer so that I could eat these every night. Thankfully, Poncho’s cousin runs the incredible Café Chilango in Paris, a train ride from London, but this place is one of the best in Europe and I hope to return. ¡Gracias Poncho por la hospitalidad y por cocinar con amor y huevos!

We wanted to find an authentic taco/Mexican cuisene resteraunt in Athens. After searching we found they were all tex mex style and not genuine Mexican food, then I stumbled upon this little beauty. When we arrived we was greeted by the owner, he was very welcoming and the small rsteraunt had a real traditional Mexican vibe going on. Now the important part, the food, delicioso! It was like being back home in Veracruz. There were multiple options of tacos, from beef, chicken, pork and more. I tried them all, and equally all as good, a real taste of proper Mexican food. We will be returning before we leave Athens. Anyone who travels to Athens, who wants proper authentic Mexican tacos, this is the only place, as you can see, I cannot talk highly enough about my experience here. I forgot to mention, the shops also has proper Mexican beers, depending on if they have stock, so worth visiting just for...
