My stay at Melia Hotel Athens was nothing short of amazing! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the overall experience. One of the first things I noticed was the area surrounding the hotel—unlike many other parts of central Athens, this neighborhood felt cleaner and less congested with homelessness, which made me feel more at ease during my trip. Location-wise, it’s incredibly convenient. There’s a mini-market right across the street, which was super handy for grabbing snacks, drinks, or any quick essentials without needing to go far. The hotel restaurant is absolutely delicious—every dish I tried tasted fantastic! Whether you’re dining in for lunch or dinner, the quality and flavors are top-tier. The breakfast buffet was also a highlight. It had a wide variety: eggs, sausages, fresh bread, salads, cold cuts, vegetables, Greek yogurt, juices, coffee—you name it, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The staff deserve a special mention. Every single one of them was friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I also had the pleasure of trying out the spa, and let me tell you—it’s worth it! I booked a Spartan massage, and the therapist from Belarus (unfortunately I forgot her name) was truly a professional. She did an incredible job, and I left feeling refreshed and completely relaxed. The sauna was small but very cozy and peaceful, adding to the spa experience. I didn’t get the chance to try the Turkish bath, but it looked inviting. My room (502) was cozy, well-designed, and very comfortable. The bed was perfect for a good night’s sleep, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious, which is something I really appreciated. Everything was clean, tidy, and well-maintained, which speaks volumes about the housekeeping standards at Melia. Lastly, the location was perfect for exploring Athens. Most of the activities I planned were within short distance from the hotel, whether walking or by quick transportation, which made sightseeing easy and stress-free. If I ever return to Greece, I would absolutely stay at Melia Hotel again without hesitation. It’s a great balance of comfort, convenience, and quality.

Nice rooms, good reception staff and convenient central location. BUT...the hotel is in a dangerous and dirty part of town and feels very unsafe especially at night. You'll see junkies injecting drugs in plain sight. The pool closes at 6:30pm which is unfortunate and very early for a hotel in a city with hot summer nights. The prices at the pool bar are also very expensive. The cheapest beer starts at €8 (Alfa beer) which normally costs €2-3 at bars in Athens. The views of the acropolis is nice. Nevertheless, the rooftop pool bar stays open, but guests are not allowed to use the pool or the jacuzzi after 6:30pm. This hotel is not ideal for business people or couples wanting to relax and enjoy facilities because young kids dominate the pool and pool bar area during the day (lots of screaming and we got jumped on and kicked a few times with no parental supervision anywhere). However, it is great for families as their is a lifeguard on duty for those not interested in parenting. Lastly, the few tables available in the pool area were crowded with empty glasses, plates and rubbish for hours and staff walked past numerous times without collecting. If guests are getting charges 8-15 euros for a drink, it would be nice to not be surrounded by mess and have somewhere to place the expensive drink. Not a very 4 star experience. The “non-smoking” room smelt of old smoke, the funniest part being that the "non-smoking"room was equipped with complimentary matches and an ashtray as shown in picture below. lol. Guests can be heard above stomping and making noise. But the rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable.

I had a great stay in Athens—my second visit after 11 years, and the experience was just as good as I remembered. Location: While the hotel is slightly removed from the city’s main attractions, it's only a 15-minute walk or a quick 5-minute metro ride to the lively parts of town. The Omonia metro station is conveniently close by. Room: The room was well-furnished and spacious enough to accommodate an extra bed for our child. The bathroom was also quite large, though the hydro-massage shower felt outdated and a bit tricky to navigate as it’s quite high to climb. However, the cleanliness was excellent throughout. Breakfast: The breakfast offered a good variety of hot and cold dishes—perfect if you want to avoid the hassle of searching for breakfast in the city early in the morning. The only downside was the coffee, which, like in other Melia hotels, wasn’t great. I’m still not sure if it’s the machine or the coffee beans they use. Rooftop Pool: One of the highlights was the rooftop pool, a rarity in Athens. Although it’s small, it’s a refreshing escape on those hot days, with the added bonus of a bar. However, I wasn’t thrilled that non-hotel guests can access the pool for a fee, as it made the area feel a bit less secure.

We booked a junior executive suite for three nights, room only. On arrival we had a warm welcome from reception, an explanation of the different restaurants etc, offer to book return car to the airport. All good. The hotel was well placed and we enjoyed the local area - not too touristy but lots of bars etc within 15 mins walk. ||Room - first impressions were good. Separate sitting area and bedroom. Big bathroom with nice toiletries, whirlpool bath and big shower. Very comfy bed. Complementary water. Everything was clean with the exception of the coffee machine, tray and drawer of pods. Dusty and lots of crumbs. ||We went to the sky bar/pool for an early evening snack as wanted an early night. Tuna pizza (26 euros) and burger (similar). Tasty but big portions. We asked to take the pizza back to the room and were just told to take it on the plate. I’d have expected a box or some sort of cover (or for them to send it on) but we ended up carrying it 7 flights back down 🙄||The next day we had breakfast as we are gold members so they offered us one free. It was fine but the orange juice definitely needs upgrading. Tasted like cordial! ||We went out for the day and our room was cleaned but the coffee machine still was covered in dust and the drums were there - even though clean cups had been brought. ||We had a table for dinner booked in the Sky bar for 8.30. The actual ambience was nice, tables well set up etc. placed our drinks order including a bottle of red. Our waiter (who had also been the bar staff through the day) brought the red wine but said it had been in the fridge (with all the red wines they had) by accident so was very cold. We wanted room temp red so sent it back and ordered a rose instead. Very strange and disappointing, when the wine list has wines going into triple figures. ||Starters came - they were fine (beetroot salad and squid). Then the mains…..||I ordered spaghetti carbonara with eggs on top (to mix in the yolk yourself) and truffle. My husband ordered the beef short rib with orzo. ||My pasta was virtually inedible when it came. Overcooked, dry, barely warm. Hard fried eggs and I could not find the truffle. I also was given a knife and fork to eat it and had to ask for a spoon before I started. I had about 4 mouthfuls before I gave up. It was also absolutely enormous, could have served 3 people. My husband’s dish was better - nice short rib but again an enormous amount of orzo. Completely outfacing. The waiter came to clear and asked if all was ok. I explained what was wrong. The manager then came over and said he would remove the spaghetti cost from the bill (32 euros) and could he bring a replacement from a different kitchen. The offer was appreciated but not taken up, although slightly concerning that the sky bar is their ‘premium’ restaurant and they were going to get something from the cafe to replace my meal with! ||After that the waiting staff never came back so we looked around for our bottle of wine and filled our own glasses up (it was in a cooler at the table behind us). ||On arriving back at our room we found a bottle of red wine with a ‘compliments’ slip but no other context. ||The next morning we went to reception and spoke to Ioli (I hope this is the correct spelling), the Manager. She was absolutely lovely and is a real credit to the hotel. She took us to a quiet space, listened to alll we had to say, took notes and really wanted to make things right for us. I appreciate it may sound like trivial moans but 3 night stay in a suite is close to £1500 and the sky bar meal had cost us 170 euros, even with the spaghetti removed! Anyway, Lioli was brilliant. We found out the complimentary wine was for us being gold members (so should have been in the room on day 1). She promised to sort the coffee machine situation. We got free breakfasts the following day, a discount on drinks/lunch in the sky bar, plus a bucket of beers for my husband in the room. She was very keen to hear our feedback (which was good and bad) and agreed that the staff in the sky bar needed further training/upskilling in how to manage a dinner service as opposed to tending a bar. ||The next day we attended the sky bar prior to having a spa treatment each (which was excellent and we’d highly recommend the massages and facials, lovely clean spa and very friendly therapists). ||The sky bar staff were a LOT more attentive than previously and we had a v nice club sandwich to share. So - feedback had been taken in that respect. ||On return to our room, we had the bucket of beers and a nice note. The coffee tray that had been full of crumbs was clean but the coffee machine had not been touched - it still had the ‘clean me’ written in the dust from the day before. I genuinely do not know how they could have avoided cleaning it, but they had! It was actually funny at this point! ||Anyway, we checked out the next morning and Lioli did this for us. She had discounted things on our bill that should have been done at source just because we are gold members (but missed by people who served us) and made sure it was all correct. She was truly excellent and her approach and ethos should be emulated by all of the F&B team. They were the main element who let down this particular Melia. ||So - a mixed experience but we’re appreciative of the amends and actions that Lioli took to...

I initially arrived here for 5 nights. The customer service at this hotel is simply put out of this world. Amazing attention to detail and the service here is of an exceptionally high standard. I stayed in the supreme Room and the room was tidy and clean, the toilets looked amazing and there was no issues whatsoever. The only issue was we were told that there was going to be a double bed and we got two singles put together, we did struggle a little to sleep. However this is criticism is only room for improvement which I am sure the hotel would rectify. Furthermore this hotel looks exactly like how the pictures describe it to be. The rooftop swimming pool is amazing and is open from 10am till 6.30pm, you have friendly staff, the lifeguard was awesome and the bartender Yiannis and Dimitrios were exceptional and catered to my every need. Breakfast here also fabulous. The rooftop bar then turns into a Restaurant at night the view of the acropolis and the parthenon is spectacular both during the day and they both light up at night and the views of the mountain sides in and around athens from the hotel rooftop were breathtaking. I enjoyed the Octopus Stew and the Gyros from the sky lounge menu including the loukoumi and God's nectar cocktails. Staff members George and Nike are exceptional and are overwhelmingly professional to such a standard that they need to create a new word to describe fabulous people like this, the hotel should do everything In their power to keep onto such kind hearted and polite and hospitable staff members and individuals. The rest of the team were also amazing. Furthermore the location of the hotel is ideal, there is a shop called Bazzar which is roughly 10 to 15 minutes away which sells great groceries for great prices, the city square is about 20 to 30 mins away very vibrant and full of life. The acropolis itself is 30 mins away from Melia athens and about 15 mins walk up the step hills to get to the top of the acropolis. Altogether the location of this hotel is perfect for budding tourists. About 10 mins away is the Archaeological Museum and various restaraunts and if you walk a little further there is a tiny family run store called "Museum Art" which sells amazing pottery and exceptional statues of Greek philosophers, Heroes and Gods. It is ran by a man called Yiannis who is also exceptionally hospitable and is friendly and will go above and beyond in his customer service. The reason I am saying this is because in and around Melia athens there are very nice and hospitable places which would increase your happiness during the stay. Also I would like to add that you are also allowed to smoke in the sky lounge restaraunt and also during the day time swim. I also lost a belonging of mine and hotel staff found this belonging and returned it to me swiftly. This hotel is also flexible to allow you to use their facilities after you check out too. I am looking forward to coming again. Thank you Melia Athens for an amazing stay. Regards Dishan...
