As this was our third time in Athens, we skipped all the typical must go to restaurants and decided to try something new. New Era was one of these and it did not disappoint! I had the opportunity to be greeted by Christine, a lovely and dedicated hostess, who was very warm and made us feel just at home. Once seated, the owner came to welcome us and provide us the specials. He was very kind and very eager to make sure we had a great experience. I went ahead and ordered the Giouvetsi, which I was craving for all day. I’m glad I got it because it did not disappoint! It was fantastic. It had the perfect seasoning, chunks of beef, and delicious tomato sauce. I was impressed. It’s worth trying something new and glad it was here! Food and drink was delicious but most of all we left impressed with the level of service from all - the waitress, owner and Christine. Coming here I truly felt like I was meeting new friends, who took such care and interest in us, not only to serve us but genuinely get to know us. Greek hospitality is something that the rest of could learn from and New Era sets the standard. We’ll certainly be coming back to Athens a 4th time and on my visit, I will be coming back here. Cheers all! - Billy from NYC

Some background: The last meal of our 4 nights in Athens - had decided not to eat Greek food again .. but we stopped and chatted to this lovely bubbly firecracker called Christine who gave us her card and said check out my reviews and come back sometime - well, we got a few streets away and decided to go back (we hadn’t checked any reviews!) Wow, so glad we did. A great meal, starters of a selection plate of dips and bread, plus a great beetroot salad (careful there’s walnuts) The dips were fantastic, a rich creamy tzatziki made with Greek yoghurt not the thin watery stuff you get elsewhere, and an amazing tarama(salata) with a really delicate fish roe flavour and a great aubergine dip Melitzanosalata - plus great olives and a feta and paprika dip. Almost too many to remember. Mains were a Cretan pasta made of spelt flour with mushrooms - a really beautifully flavoured dish, and a traditional beef moussaka that was hard to beat (and I love moussaka!) A couple of beers and house red wines completed the evening and we were treated to a complimentary desert of halva .. perfect Thanks Christina and all your team for making our last night in Athens a wonderful evening to remember.. We found New Era on Google while searching for an authentic spot to enjoy Easter lunch—and what a gem! We’re an Italian/French couple, so our food expectations are quite high, and this place delivered beyond what we hoped for. On Easter Day, we had the fava spread (so smooth and flavorful), the eggplant salad (smoky and perfectly balanced), the beetroot salad with walnuts and creamy cheese (fresh, colorful, and comforting), and the incredible fried feta with honey and black sesame—crispy on the outside, melty inside, and just divine. They even surprised us with complimentary little desserts at the end. All of this for only 30€. We loved it so much, we came back tonight for dinner—this time enjoying another fava spread (we couldn’t resist), the fish roe spread, and the pasta with truffle. Again, everything was delicious, generous, and beautifully made. This place brings a fresh, heartfelt take on Greek cuisine, with quality ingredients, great portions, and beautiful plating. It’s simple food done with great care and creativity. Highly recommended to anyone who loves good food—whether you’re local or just passing through. We’ll definitely be back!

Terrible service, fake smiles, slow beyond belief. It is really baffling how this restaurant could get such high ratings here. The hostess greeted us nicely and she was friendly, but once we sat down, it all went downhill. The head waiter was inattentive and we had to keep flagging waiters down until they finally came to our table. The starter and salad came out quite quickly, but the main dish took more than one hour to be ready. It is really appalling. And when we asked them what’s happening with our dish, the waiter gave us a fake smile and attitude and told us to wait. He said it takes time for them to cook it. However, we saw many other tables who came after us get their food before us. The kitchen kept making food for other tables, and the table right next to us - who also ordered after us- they ordered the exact same dish as us but they received the dish much earlier than we did. We were left waiting and waiting, until we didn’t have appetite to eat anymore. They never gave us our food and after more than one hour passed, we simply couldn’t tolerate the terrible service anymore and we had to cancel our order. The restaurant left us feeling like they didn’t even want us there, like we were invisible. The head waiter never apologized to us. He never once said sorry or seemed apologetic. We are so disappointed with...
