Had a pleasant stay at the Metropolis Hotel. To begin with, my family arrived early in the morning and the gentleman at the reception was very friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage with them while we went to go eat breakfast and our room was prepared. We were allowed to check into our room early afterwards which was much appreciated as the heat and sun outside were reaching day highs. The rooms are small yet very comfortable. Everything was very clean and the AC worked well. As others have mentioned, being in a central location the street noise can be heard from the rooms at night, but this was nothing that simply closing the windows and patio door couldn’t fix. After a long tiring day of exploring the city, I could say that I slept like a baby regardless of the small noise outside. The breakfast is cheap and simple, yet delicious and everything you could ask for was provided. Finally, the service which we received from the staff at the hotel was amazing from beginning to end. Thanks to George we were able to receive transportation accommodations from the hotel to the airport at a very early hour with no trouble. The staff is also very knowledgeable and recommended activities for us to do during our stay. If you are in need of a small comfortable stay in the heart of Athens, Metropolis Hotel has all you need.

My fam and I stayed here for a short vacation. We learned about the hotel on Booking.com and chose it because it offered free breakfast and airport shuttle. I’m pretty sure I read the hotel details correctly, but we were told the shuttle is only “available” and that it comes with a cost. Also, when we arrived, we were told there was a note on the website saying breakfast wasn’t offered during the season we were visiting. I don’t recall any such notification on booking.com, as I booked months in advance with breakfast as a deciding factor. The location of the hotel was perfect. Good food, sites, the Metro, lots of shops, etc. were all in walking distance. There’s a church across the street whose bell chimes on the hour. It didn’t really bother me. As for the hotel itself, it was basic. Served it’s purpose. However, walls are thin. We could even hear a lady on a floor above ours having the sexual experience of her life. lol. The guys at the front desk also offered no help with bags. They sat and watched while we took our bags up and down on our own. They were friendly, but didn’t seem to be service-oriented. Would I stay here again? Definitely. The location and price make it worth it. I would just set my expectations lower.

Advice, stay some place else. I am not sure how this place is rated as high as it is given the room I was placed in. While the staff was friendly and location semi decent, the room left a lot to be desired. It was more of a hostel versus a hotel, and for what was paid, I could have stayed elsewhere. The room looked like I'd stepped into 1970 babuska living room, complete with a curtain that probably also served in the last Greek war. The windows were so thin that we could participate in the cafe conversations and heard the church bells at the top of every hour. The AC worked at a minimum, and the room was really only suited to house one individual, not two, with luggage. We found glass on the floor, footprints on sheets, stains on the walls and curtains, and the door had no deadbolt. And let's not start on the bathroom with no space for toiletries and that it was sized for a small child and water would go across the floor. Overall just pick another hotel and pay a bit more.

The location is excellent for travellers, on the edge of trendy Plaka district on Mitreopolis St, which has vehicle access. We walked easily to the Acropolis, lively Monastiriki, ancient Roman and Athenian Agora, Syntagma Square. Metro stations at Monastiriki and Syntagma Square. No need to walk to Plaka to eat. The restaurants nearby including one adjoining the hotel, served delicious meals, as did Meat the Greek around the corner.|The Acropolis view from our room and balcony was a delight by day and night. We loved the sunshine on our south facing windows and balcony. Our room overlooked a leafy square and the main Orthodox church of Athens. Its bell tolling the hour and half hour did not wake us but may disturb light sleepers.|Our room was clean and maintained very well during our stay. It had a frig, air-conditioning and TV. The bed was comfortable, but the other furnishings were sparse and a little shabby. Liquid and solid soap provided, no other toiletries. No USB charge ports, we used the charger we use at home.|A kettle is provided on request. We borrowed cups from the breakfast buffet and used our own tea and coffee. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace (E8pp) accessed by elevator and one flight of stairs. The bakery across Mitreolopos St serves fabulous croissants and other delights.|Reception is staffed 24/7 by friendly, helpful staff. There is a small elevator. There are two steep steps without handrail to reception and a short flight of stairs with handrail to...

I stayed at the hotel with friends for a couple of nights last year. On first appearance, we were a little surprised at how small the rooms were - one may use the term "bijou" 😘, but after we'd seen the breathtaking view, had an fabulous shower, and settled in, it wasn't that important to us. |The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful - we learned all about the history of this family hotel from the manager/owner, and Athens in general. We weren't what you would call a typical group - the 5 of us each have a mobility impairment, which did prove somewhat of a challenge at times (not just at the hotel, everywhere - which is to be expected as it's an ancient city). However we accept that we chose this hotel based primarily on location and cost, and were not expecting it to be fully accessible - one of our group who joined us for one evening was unable to manage the steep stairs to the rooftop breakfast area, which was a little disappointing, but we resolved it by all eating out rather than have breakfast there the next day.|There is a fridge which I was grateful for as I don't do dairy (they only have "regular" milk which I completely understand) and a safe in the room.||The location is perfect, and the surrounding neighborhood is full of wonderful, authentic places to eat. Would definitely go back in a heartbeat!||(I fully intended to write the review after our stay in May 2023 but...
