i was here a while ago while on holiday in corfu. where do i start… first of all our server thought it would be fun to keep making sarcastic comments to a group of 3 young women. while we were placing our orders we asked if there was alcohol in a certain dish. he said yes but that the alcohol gets cooked down and whatnot. we said that we would rather pick something else and he was almost offended that we didn’t want to have the dish that was prepared with alcohol for religious reasons. yes we understand that it gets cooked down and whatnot but it is still my decision whether i want to eat it or not. we ordered something else. when he brought over some water, he made a “joke” about how it’s non-alcoholic. okay very funny. while we’re waiting for our food… my sisters and i are talking. we were talking about something serious and so one of my sisters was making somewhat of a shocked face. the waiter brings over some bread and asks my sister if she’s okay. she says yes and then he has a whole speech about how life is beautiful and how there’s no need to be so serious and whatnot. very weird behavior as he doesn’t know us and doesn’t know what we were talking about (which is also none of his business). while we were waiting for our food these wasps kept bothering us. we were obviously uncomfortable because they kept flying around. he was almost annoyed that we were so uncomfortable and then gave us another speech about bees and honey (even though they were wasps mind you). the food came, it was mediocre. we paid and we left. very poor service. i don’t know if this was because we don’t fit their target audience or what but i would definitely warn people about this place if they’re...
Read moreWe were pleasantly surprised when we received bread with two types of sauces that we did not ask for, we thought how nice of them. But then we were very unpleasantly surprised that they charged us €8 for that. This type of service, where the guest is brought food that he did not ask for, and then charged for it, is only a way to make more money, and not to make the guest feel better.
Answer to restaurants reply:
You can't be more wrong. I love Greece and I've been coming to your country for a very long time and I guees I have seen a lot more of Greece than you have for sure. In other islands for examples Crete, Kefalonia we always got appetizers or desert for free and other food and drinks, such as watermellon and ouzo. That is a way for to make good relations and reviews. Reading other comments and your replies it seems you have answer for everything and think that every negative review you get is not justified. If you ask us when we finish our order is that all that means we dont want anything other on the menu so if you bring something, that means its the courtesy of the house and should not be charged. Instead of your politics that "customer is always wrong" and wasting time and energy finding ways to justify yourself you should correct something that is obviosly wrong so you would get...
Read moreA very good evening meal at Bougainvillea! We did have to book ahead on a Monday evening as it does get very busy. It's a lovely location. Highly attentive and friendly staff who were keen to ensure that we had a great time. We started with cold starters of fava bean puree, and aubergine puree with bread - these were traditional yet elegant, and we highly recommend these dishes. Our mains of octopus orzo, and stuffed pork with potato mash were excellent. The orzo was flavourful without being overly reduced. The accompanying Greek salad was perfect, with excellent tomatoes in particular. We tried both house red and white wines, which were very good and inexpensive, however the most outstanding wine was their Rosé which was one of the best I've ever had, crisp and dry. We spent €125 between the two of us, which included a tip, 2 carafes of wine, 2 additional glasses of wine, 2 starters, 2 bread baskets, 2 mains, a salad to share, a dessert to share, and coffees - so this was such great value overall. Certainly worth getting a table here during a visit...
