If you find yourself on the beautiful island of Crete, there is one place you simply cannot miss – this delightful Cretan fish tavern. Nestled along the picturesque coastline, this hidden gem on the far end of the port offers an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you yearning to return again and again.

From the moment you step in, you are greeted with warm hospitality that feels as genuine as the sea breeze. The ambiance is charmingly rustic, with the aroma of freshly grilled fish wafting through the air, instantly whetting your appetite. The tavern’s commitment to authenticity is evident in every detail, from the traditional Cretan decor to the locally sourced ingredients.

But let’s get to the star of the show – the fish. Fresh doesn’t even begin to describe it. Each catch is brought in daily by local fishermen, and you can taste the quality with every bite. Whether you choose a perfectly grilled sea bream, tender octopus, or succulent prawns, you are in for a treat. The simplicity of the preparation, with just a touch of olive oil, lemon, and herbs, allows the natural flavors of the seafood to shine. This is, without a doubt, the best fresh fish I’ve ever had – and I’ve dined in some of the finest seafood restaurants around the world.

The side dishes are equally delightful, with traditional Cretan salads, homemade bread, and local wines that perfectly complement the meal. Every dish is prepared with love and respect for the ingredients, making the dining experience not just a meal, but a true celebration of Cretan culture and cuisine.

To top it all off, the prices are incredibly reasonable, especially given the exceptional quality of the food. The tavern is a place where locals and tourists alike come together, drawn by the promise of an unforgettable meal in a cozy, unpretentious setting.

If you are a seafood lover, this tavern is a must-visit. It’s the kind of place you’ll talk about long after your trip is over, and where the memories of that perfect, fresh fish will bring a smile to your face every time. Highly, highly...

My girlfriend and I ate at this tavern twice during our long weekend trip to Chania. It was recommended to us by our parents who went here some 20 years ago and were really impressed by the quality of the fresh fish and the classic Cretan tavern atmosphere. Indeed I can only agree with them. One day we had the fish soup (Kakavia) which was nice and filling, and the next day we had the grilled catch of the day. Both times the fish was super fresh (the waiter also showed me all the fish he had in the cooler) and perfectly cooked. So I will highly recommend it!

One word about the surprisingly low reviews. I think there must be a mismatch in the expectations of many tourists here. This is a traditional tavern experience where the food is simple, fresh, and well cooked; it is maybe not what urban foodies are used to. My personal opinion is that we travel to discover other ways of doing things (in particular of enjoying food) and not to get more of the same but with a different background.

In summary, if you are looking for perfectly cooked fresh fish, in a more quiet and relaxed place with a great view of the Venetian port, and you appreciate the simple Mediterranean lifestyle, this is the place for you.

It was definitely the overall most pleasant and (I think) authentic experience I had in Chania. I really hope that this place will not be forced to change the way it does things just to conform to the homogeneous standards imposed by...

We were approached by a member of staff and brought to a table. A young man asked us if we would like table water, which we did as it was a very hot day. It took over half an hour for them to arrive with the water and menus. The young man was pouring our water while an older man was taking our order. The older man then shouted in Greek to the younger man who stopped serving our water and left but, in doing so, must not have heard my daughter's full order. My sons order came incorrectly. He had ordered Spaghetti bolognaise, and he received a vegetarian spaghetti dish that he didn't like. My daughter's chips never arrived to go with her Hallumi. There was nobody who checked in with us during the meal, and when I eventually got to speak to the older man whom we ordered from. He just told me we got what we ordered. My Tuna salad was nice but it was enormous. It would have easily fed 3 people, too big, so...

The worst restaurant that we ever visited on Crete. We pass by and waiter invite us to have a meal here. He was kind, but the food is garbage. They don’t know how to cook especially meat. I ordered lamp chops and I can’t it them. They were like sheet chewing gum - you chew it forever. The meat wasn’t cooked good, it was fresh meat!!!! Even the cat, who come to us, didn’t want to eat this meat. The Greek salad was ugly, without feta cheese, but with some white cheese paste with spoiled olives. Moussaka was very dry and burn. We didn’t order the bread but they bring it to us and charged us. All furniture is old and broken. Inside is a mess, many old staff. Ugly place in good location. Even they didn’t suggest something sweet in the end that is common for Greece. Don’t recommend, avoid this place.

It's not the best, but not the worst experience I had in Chania. First the food: it's good, my order was some tzatziki (good but too much garlic and the quantity was for at least 3 people), then the catch of day ( grilled fish), not sure what fish it was but it was good, well grilled, and serve already opened in fillets like it's supposed to be. Then I ordered a coffee that was served with 2 traditional treats "on the house" like most restaurant do in Chania. The staff: wow! There are... How can I say that... No so engaging. A little more smiling would be appreciated. The prices: well more expensive than normal, probably because of the location. The overall impression is that I guess tourists should stick with more typical restaurant in the city, except if the view on the port is your priority.
