Osteria di Creta — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

I went to dinner with my boyfriend during the week we visited Crete. I can’t really recommend this place because we had a negative experience. When we arrived, it took a long time before they brought us the menu. Then, after an even longer wait, the dishes arrived—but without any cutlery. We asked for cutlery, and it took another 10–12 minutes before they brought it, so the plates just sat there the whole time.

We tried the seafood risotto and spaghetti allo scoglio (seafood pasta), and without wanting to be too harsh, the taste of the sea was completely missing—quite the opposite. I didn’t touch my dish; the waiter noticed and asked me about it. I told him I didn’t like it. The owner came over, asked me the same question, then walked away looking annoyed. After a while, he came back saying he had eaten from my plate and thought it tasted fine (let’s just leave it at that).

On top of everything, we spent more than at other places where we had excellent food, and even though they were working with tourists, those places appreciated their guests and used top quality ingredients.

Hopefully, if the management ever changes, things will improve. For now, it’s a definite no: terrible service, zero hospitality,...

So we were eating and we asked for fries and bread and other things. When it arrived, they had forgotten to make the fries. When they gave it to us, it was still wet and had a lot of oil on it. Then we asked for the mayo, which they had also forgotten. She put it down very loudly and angrily, and she raised her voice and said, "Tho you want even more," in a sarcastic way. When we wanted to pay, it was incredibly expensive because the bread was suddenly 2 euros per piece, which normally was a portion, but this time you paid for each loaf individually, which was never the case. This restaurant is at the end of the old town bay and we are happy that we found it. The cocktails were delicious. We wanted seafood and had a traditional shrimp dish cooked in tomato sauce, which was amazing and we also had mussels which were probably the best muscles I have ever had and I get them all the time. The ladies who were our servers were efficient and very nice. The ambience is so nice because you’re basically just steps away from the bay with all of the boats. Very beautiful.
