First things first . I am greek and have been going to Crete for 20 years. If you want to visit because you watched Anthony Bourdain eat here, do yourself a favor and don't. We stayed in Crete for 9 days this summer. Neoria was BY FAR the worst restaurant we visited. The chairs were put so tight together that we couldn't even sit down without the people next to us standing up to help. The location is great, but that's about it. We ordered the following: -Cretan salad and Stuffed Zuchini : very good -Octopus in vinegar: below average, nothing to remember of. -marinated anchovies : was OK -Fried calamari : it was like chewing on Dunlop tyres, not eatable -Fried shrimps: they served with the shell, it was ugly and tasteless, terrible frying oil too. -fried red mullets: they promoted it as super fresh but the fish was too big and not for frying, they were about 8 minutes overcooked. just not worth it for 65 euros. -Grilled Anchovies: it felt like eating sand -Beef steak for a child: overcooked and rubber texture. - The house white wine : was the worst wine I have ever drank in a restaurant. The waiter came to ask how thigs were; I said not great, then the manager/boss(?) arrived. He asked what was wrong , after i told him the issues with 2 of the dishes, he just left without saying anything and never came back. Even when I went inside to pay the bill, he passed by me and didn't ask or say anything. Not worth the hype, save yourself and try any other restaurant. I guarantee you it will be better than this

If you’re looking for fresh seafood, authentic meze, and a good glass of ouzo by the sea — Neoria Fish Tavern is a must-visit in Chania. Everything we had was delicious and incredibly fresh. One thing to keep in mind: portions here are generous! Whether it’s a whole fresh fish or the meze dishes, most of them can easily be shared between two (or even more). So when ordering, it’s best to go slow and add more later if needed. The stuffed vine leaves (dolmadakia) were a highlight — perfectly seasoned and beautifully cooked. Their selection of meze pairs really well with ouzo, making it a great spot to enjoy a slow, traditional Greek dinner. There are both indoor and shaded seating options, so even non-smokers can dine comfortably at any time. However, if you’re planning to sit outside during summer, I strongly recommend going after 8:00 PM — the earlier hours can be quite hot and take away from the experience. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and charming — just what you’d hope for in a seaside taverna. A special thank you for the complimentary dessert and raki at the end — such a thoughtful touch that made the experience even sweeter. We’ll definitely come back on our next visit to Crete!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Experience at Neoria Fish Tavern – Xylouris in Chania, Crete If you are in Chania, Neoria Fish Tavern – Xylouris is an absolute must! The fish could not be fresher – every bite tastes like it just came from the sea. The service is equally amazing: warm, welcoming, and truly family-oriented, which makes you feel right at home. We tried several dishes, and each one was unforgettable. The mussels were perfectly prepared, the shrimp was delicious, and the frisb… there are simply no words to describe how incredible it was! To top it all off, the restaurant is right on the harbour, giving you peaceful and beautiful views while you enjoy your meal. An unforgettable dining experience – I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Crete!

recently had the misfortune of dining at a restaurant where I encountered the worst waiter I've ever come across in my life - Alex. I cannot express my disappointment enough with the abysmal service provided by this inept individual. From start to finish, it was an absolute nightmare.

Firstly, Alex seemed completely disinterested in serving us. It felt as if we were an inconvenience to him, and he couldn't be bothered to offer even a modicum of basic courtesy. His lackadaisical attitude was evident from the moment we sat down, as he barely acknowledged our presence and appeared more engrossed in chatting with his co-workers.

To make matters worse, Alex was incredibly slow and forgetful. It took an eternity for him to take our orders, and even then, he managed to mess them up. He seemed incapable of comprehending simple requests, constantly mixing up our food and drink orders. It was like playing a guessing game with him, and unfortunately, we ended up with dishes we didn't even order.

Furthermore, Alex displayed a shocking level of incompetence when it came to basic serving skills. He clumsily spilled drinks on the table, leaving us with sticky and wet surfaces. He also forgot essential items such as cutlery and napkins, leaving us to fend for ourselves. It was apparent that he had little to no training in providing efficient and attentive service.

To add insult to injury, when we tried to address our concerns with Alex, he responded with a dismissive and condescending attitude. He showed no interest in rectifying his mistakes or making our dining experience more enjoyable. His lack of professionalism was truly astounding and left a sour taste in our mouths.

In conclusion, my encounter with Alex, the waiter at this restaurant, was nothing short of a disaster. His apathetic demeanor, slow service, constant mistakes, and unhelpful attitude made for an incredibly unpleasant dining experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering dining at this establishment to steer clear unless they want to endure the frustration and disappointment brought on by Alex's sheer...

We ate dinner here a few days ago and have some opinions. after seeing this place hyped on tiktok we were excited for some good seafood dishes, unfortunately we were left disappointed. Let's start with the positives: the area is great, we reserved a table a day early and got a table closest to the marina, which is a really nice view. we had the mussles and the seafood risotto as starters, nothing to complain about and actually decent portions. when I asked about another drink I got it pretty quickly, but isn't that just the bare minimum. Let's get to the negatives... and there definitely are a few. my boyfriend got his starter about 5-10 minutes before I got mine which left me sitting with just the sliced bread which we now realize wasn't complimentary, but that one was on us we should have checked with the waiter and gotten informed that the bread was 6 €. the service was really inconsistent, as I already wrote i got my drink really quickly but we waited ages for our plates to be cleared or to get our main course. the place gets really cramped around 8pm and you can't really get up or move your chair without knocking into another table. mostly the servers are just standing around at the entrance, (which was exactly at our table) and are being quite loud, sometimes even handing each other plates over our heads as we weren't even there. we ordered the fish platter for two, which was large but ultimately tasteless, we needed to add a lot of salt to even get it eatable, in the end we left about 60% of it untouched. Also we got about 10 fries with it, not at all proportional to the amount of fish. For 68€ we expected more. another example of inconsistent service was that the table behind us got their main course before even finishing their first. To summarize, we would not return and dont advice anyone...
