Wonderful restaurant serving great traditional Cretan cuisine. It is set on the waterfront of the old port and benefits from the buzz created by the numerous tourists walking by.
An absolute bonus tonight was a wonderful free concert set nearby behind the old mosque.
This is my 3rd dinner here this trip and all 3 dinners have been wonderful.
Tonight I ordered the Pastitio - which is a wonderful oven prepared dish consisting of layers of large gauge pasta with a layer of tasty meat sauce and topped off with a beautiful Greek bechamel sauce which was cooked perfectly. The serving was very generous is size.
I also chose to have Vlita (slender amaranth) on the side - this is a plant or grass that is boiled and served with boiled zucchini and then doused with lemon - a beautiful traditional vegetable.
Dinner was finished with the complimentary small serving of cake and ice ream and the hosts’ “Tsipouro” - the local fire water that was surprisingly smooth, but be warned - it kicks like a mule - all may seem fine as it goes down, but beware when you stand up.
A truly delightful dinner experience
I went back 2 nights later and was again thoroughly impressed and fulfilled.
Rhis rime, i ordered the “Kleftiko” - a parcel of lamb, vegies and fetta cheese wrapped and cooked in baking paper. It was absolutely delightful - the lamb and vegies were cooked beautifully, the meat falling apart ans taking on the flavours of the vegetables and feta - highly highly recommended
I also had a serving of grilled sardines - very tasty and a great accompaniment to the Cretan Retsina.

The place is located very close to the bay/port with lovely view 😊.
First I've tried sananaki (fried cheese) which was very tasty with lemon 🍋 sauce.
For main dish we've chosen fried seafood platter. The octopus 🐙 and calamari was amazing the best I've had. Very often when I tried to eat octopus or calamari in other restaurants they were very chewy and hard to swallow. In Plateia someone really knows how to prepare those dishes. Unfortunately shrimps weren't prepared correctly 😕 they've still had their digestive systems in them which I don't like. Also if you want to try this dish don't take the starter🤣 the portion is enormous and we couldn't eat it. Too big even for two people.

The staff is friendly, and though I know a little Greek, my friends did not and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The cocktails were great, the bartender was really sweet, and our servers held great conversation.
I had, on my first trip, the fried calamari for the table as well as saganaki & the salmon pasta. I have been dreaming of the pasta ever since! I wish I could have snagged the recipe, because it was flawless.
On my second trip, I got the salmon fillet and it was absolutely gorgeous. Well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and very filling. Please give this restaurant a try! It was the perfect fair for excellent food and amazing service. I miss you...
