LITHINON LUXURY APARTMENT — Hotel in Municipality of Chania

OK, so lets get down to the stuff you need to know about.

Very pretty rooms, faultless, I think, incredibly clean, beautifully decorated, and great, if you can manage the rest.

There is no lift. There is no access to any of the floors, except by an outdoor exposed spiral stairwell, with totally no handrails.

Top floor people, be aware! The very top floor stairwell stairs are made from timbers, and gave me deep concern, and question whether this meets Greece Tourism building criteria safety standards…there is a “but”…..this building is heritage listed.

It is a Heritage Listed Property. In case of fire? In the event of a fire - The timber stairwell will burn and no way you can get out safely! I am to understand that this is a “Heritage Listed Building” which is great, but hey guys, it would have been proper for you to let us know?

As may be the case in many islands, there is no official reception office or desk, there is a hospitable fellow called Giannis, who will meet you at the property, and with whom I chatted with over one year ago to book the suites.

I travelled with my first cousin who is a Doctor, and his wife who are “immediate relatives which are first cousins, so I would consider this to meet the terminology of family”. They live in Piraeus.

I had been told by travel agents and officials, that we should fill out paperwork upon arrival and do not pay cash but use cards or bank transfers.

Yes during our internet discussions I had understood and agreed one year ago to pay a cash transaction to Lithinon when they asked for cash for the balance.

However, as a first time visitor to Crete, I am left totally confused, after having been told not to do so….. (pay cash) but stuck to discussion arrangements

I was emphatically told and learned upon arrival into Greece, that its better to pay by credit card, as an official payment.

But, these guys appear to be assistive and ok with pre-arranged internet paperwork, at this time, I’m just a little surprised at the lack of formalities, that’s all. Credit card is far safer than carrying bundles of Euro’s around in our pockets…

I was given the mobile phone by entry person and repeatedly I was spoken to by a female in a manner I am not accustomed to: This should have been handled a little more sensitively.

I am told: “You should have asked what access to top floor was”….

So I apologise Lithinon, for your non-disclosure of this fact.

I have never before had to ask, …what is the method of access to our booked apartment?

I did not at any time raise my voice to this lady as the confusion in the discussion needed to be cleared for her and for myself. So probably distress at all levels.

When we arrived for our 6 night stay for 2 suites - I decided best to leave, and pay the full cancellation fees, plus a bonus on top, for the misunderstandings on every pathway.

We were offered alternative arrangements for rooms. I declined due to many unknowns at this stage.

I settled with complete agreement, with no anger or resentment with Mr. Giannis. I indeed paid a further 600 Euros upon my departure. Thank you Giannis.

I regretfully say, that for myself and my family, this was not what we had hoped for, but all settled at the end of the episode.

It is a very visual website, looking so great, the rooms are beautiful indeed

But, the non-disclosure - indeed a sad experience for all.

Mr Giannis was most gracious upon the receipt of cancellation cash, and cancellation reached upon, and he wished us the best.

Dear Giannis and Katerina, thank you so much for a beautiful stay in Chania. First of all the location was fantastic - super close to the harbour, so easy to walk around. The rooms were very clean and with everything you need. They were cleaned again often throughout our stay. Every day they were very friendly and smiling to greet us. Finally, I wanted to say a special thank you as they went above and beyond. I left a special photo book in one of the rooms. It was already late at night and I had a flight early in the morning - I had checked out already and moved to another area. I realised that night and came back to the apartments and they helped me find my book again despite it not being in their operating hours. It was much appreciated and a very kind gesture. Thanks...

Giannis and Katrina thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your beautiful accommodation. We found ourselves without accommodation last minute and we are so glad we came across your lovely place.

We stayed in the superior suite. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, with lovely thoughtful amenities.

The suites are so close to the port, but set back so we had a very restful nights sleep with no noise. Our suite was light and bright with views of the charming laneway below.

Katrina was so kind as to provide us with some beach and sightseeing recommendations.
