Neat little restaurant with mix of Mexican and Sushi dishes. It was nice to have some food reminiscent of home after traveling for over 2 weeks. Even if it wasn’t as spicy or flavorful as what we are accustomed to in the southwest. The Birra Pollo and Carnitas Tacos were tasty as was the chimichanga. The churros were amazing! The Paloma was underwhelming, bit sweet for me. The not so great: The service was on the slow side but it didn’t seem all that busy. Maybe 10 tables total for a hostess, busser, server, and some guy who might have been the manager. It was incredibly difficult to get the attention of any staff despite being seated right across from the hostess stand. The Edamame came out after we finished our meal despite being ordered 20min prior to ordering our main dishes and was overcooked to the point that the pods disintegrated when trying to get the beans out. I ordered a glass of Casamigos Reposado neat and had to remind the waitress that I still hadn’t received it when our meal was finished. Whatever tequila I received in my glass of ice cubes with orange slice was absolutely not Casamigos Repo, it was some sort of lesser quality silver tequila. (This is my house tequila and I know it very well.) I didn’t bother with challenging it with the staff since the kids were already restless and would have mutinied if they had to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at El Sur, a Mexican restaurant in Heraklion, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience.
The food at El Sur was simply outstanding. Their mango sushi was a delightful surprise, with fresh ingredients and a perfect blend of flavors that left me craving for more. The pork belly tacos were a true highlight of the meal, with the succulent pork and flavorful toppings creating a mouthwatering combination.
The drinks at El Sur were also top-notch, offering a great variety of options that complemented the meal perfectly. Whether you're a fan of classic margaritas or prefer something more exotic like a Mai Thai, their drink menu has something for everyone.
What truly set El Sur apart, though, was the exceptional hospitality of the waitstaff. Nikos and Harry, the two waiters who served us, went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was memorable. They were attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal.
Overall, El Sur is a gem in Heraklion. With delicious food, a diverse drink selection, and exceptional service from Nikos and Harry, it's a must-visit for anyone craving Mexican cuisine with a touch of Mediterranean hospitality. I can't wait to return and enjoy another fantastic...
Read moreFirst we came and we had to ask for the menu which we saw they gave to all the other other tables who came after us. After ordering the food we waited some time the dishes came all at different times and we had to remind them couple of times of the food we are still missing. After eating we wanted to have shisha but after ordering it we also had to remind them 3 times and after 45 minutes of waiting they told us they didn’t have shisha that all of them were being used. I wish we knew this when we ordered it and didn’t find out after all this time and couple remindings. Overall I would not go to this place again as there is many more places around where the service is simply better. Also the music was way too loud to hold a...
