Chagiati is a must visit in Heraklion!
The outdoor sitting area is decorated with hand painted murals on wood, of flowers and other crops, with hanging decorations and painted wooden chairs and tables. The menu is short, but most dishes are regional, and surely prepared masterfully. For appetizers we ordered tasty sfakiani with honey and sesame on top, and saganaki; a thick, fried edam cheese slice in breadcrumbs with spices and with an optional lemon wedge. Be warned though, the appetisers and main dishes are very big portions (we found this out the hard way :p). For the main dishes we tried grilled kebap, seabream fish, and chicken souvlaki. I liked the kebap better, but the chicken was also tasty. The fish, I didn't try, but I am told it was juicy and mild but not bland. It was served with vegetables, tomatoes and fries. For dessert we had fresh fruits and some mysterious, but delicious pastry with bananas and ice cream, the dessert was on the house.
