Heraklion Youth Hostel — Hotel in Municipality of Heraklion

HOME-LIKE Piece of Heaven PLACE -The hostel is originally an old private house and studio of a wealthy doctor who made it back in 1963. It has the archutectural quality of old buildings with high ceilings, precious floors and fine details (look at the stair balustrade). There are few rooms only with stacked beds and a private room. They all have a balcony and are very clean and comfortable. Of course it always depends ln the hosts but we had a very good impression of the environment. There are showers and toilets enough for everybody and the roof terrace is a pleasant place to spend the evenings. You can also sleep on the roof in outdoor stacked beds OR in the old laundry place that is now a room for 3. You can cook and leave your stuffs with no problems. Little kitchen is outside. The owner she is a very kind and calm person. You feel like home also thanks to her. I highly recommend to people in search for another...

Rena, the owner, was so patient and helpful. Getting me there from the bus station. The hostel is in a very classic old building with grand marble staircases. A large, comfortable ( sociable!) Rooftop patio. Great equipped kitchen, nice wash Staton, great showers/bathroom. Some very cozy sitting areas.. this was very nice, clean and cared for. Now the best part, 5 minutes walk to every where . The center of shops, cool buildings and restaurants. Or to the port the other way. Short walk to bus zone for bus to airport. I am beyond impressed. A good mix of family and young and even an old guy like me got along, shared some food and drinks, the usual stories of our travels and where to next... that comes from Rena caring about everything to make it safe and comfortable. Seems a little overpriced for very basic functionality. The sunroof is nice and a great place to relax and the hostel is quite well located. The rooms were very basic, wall sockets not near the beds, squeaky bunk beds that type of thing. The shower had very low pressure and there was no fixing in the wall so your had to hold it to wash yourself, which when you are rinsing off is very close due to the low water-pressure. The receptionists are helpful but didn’t remember basics like bedding ect when we checked in so we had to go and ask for them twice as they said they would put them on for us but didn’t do so before 9 and we didn’t want to go out not knowing if we had bedsheets.
