Il Pazzo — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

Extremely disappointing experience – not because of limited vegan options, but because of how poorly the situation was handled.

When I sat down, I asked specifically what the vegan options were. The waitress told me there were two – despite the restaurant being tagged online as vegan-friendly. That’s fine. I ordered one of the two dishes: a pizza.

Unfortunately, the pizza had a bitter, unpleasant taste. I barely touched it – it was obvious I didn’t eat. At no point did anyone come to check in or ask if everything was okay.

When I eventually called the waitress to clear the table, I told her it wasn’t tasty. She didn’t ask why, didn’t offer an alternative, didn’t show concern – she just asked, “So should I take the plate?”

Then, when I brought up the charge at the end, she said: “I told you there are only two options, and you chose this one.” That’s not how you treat a customer. I don’t mind that there are only two options – I mind being charged for a dish I clearly didn’t eat, and being treated like it’s my fault for not liking it.

As if that wasn’t enough, they placed a non-vegan dessert in front of me without asking – even though I made it clear I’m vegan. Completely inappropriate.

I must note – one waitress did come to me later, clearly uncomfortable with how things unfolded, and kindly recommended a nearby vegan café. And to her credit, the first waitress did call me a taxi. So the issue here isn’t rudeness – it’s a complete lack of awareness and care in basic service.

The food at this restaurant was good, but everything else… sadly, not. We waited about 15 minutes for a server to even come to our table. We had to ask for water four times, and each time she kept asking what kind we wanted, like she had no idea we’d already told her. We also waited a long time for our food, while other customers who came in later got their drinks and meals before us. After we finished eating, we asked for the check — the waitress nodded, then… a few minutes later just left the restaurant, and nobody else came over. In the end I had to go up to the counter myself to pay. The staff just didn’t have it together — everything felt chaotic and unprofessional. It’s a shame, because the kitchen does a good job, but with service like this it’s hard to want...

We ordered amargherita pizza that arrived very wet and not baked in the middle. We asked to return it to the oven or get a refound. The waitress argued with us that this is what a margherita pizza looks like and this is the dish. Surprisingly we were charged for the pizza even though we didn't even taste it. After an argument with the waitress who went back and forth several times. They decided not to charge us for it. It's surprising that they even thought to charge for a dish that we couldn't even taste at all. It was completely watery and inedible. Real audacity. However the pasta and the salats were great.
