Really wanted to give this place more stars and it took me a while to write this review. We were at this place a week ago as it has really good ratings but we didn’t really read through all of the reviews. The place is very nice and big, and we really enjoyed the food. It was delicious and traditional with quite big portions. The service however was probably the weirdest one we’ve encountered during the whole trip. It took quite a while for them to bring the menu, take the note and finally bring the dishes. At the time we went there weren’t many people so I don’t know why it took them so long but we had to wait for a while. Waiting for the bill was just too much at that point as we were waiting for around 20 minutes (just the bill). In the end we had to go to the bartender and pay it there and while we were paying one of the waiters increased the volume of the music so much to the point when it was impossible to be at the place. It was unpleasantly loud, everyone around was a bit shocked but the waiter seemed to enjoy it. We found it quite rude and finally left the place...
Read moreService was notably slow, with nearly 30 minutes passing before the order was taken. Given that only two staff were managing the entire floor, this may be understandable in September, though it still impacts the overall dining rhythm. The atmosphere, however, was pleasant, and the staff themselves were warm and attentive.
The food left mixed impressions. The chicken lacked freshness, suggesting it may have been pre-cooked, and the seasoning leaned too heavily on salt, overshadowing the natural flavors of the dish. The pasta was competently made, but lacked depth — more a standard plate than something memorable. In contrast, the Dakos stood out as excellent: fresh, well-balanced, and authentic in flavor. Some of the fried dishes also delivered a satisfying crunch and taste.
Overall, the restaurant provides a friendly environment, but greater attention to ingredient freshness and flavor balance is needed for the dining experience to rise above...
Read moreI don't even know where to start. I found myself here because the place next door didn't have a table available that night. What a silver lining! I ended up spending 3 of my 7 days in Heraklion eating here (and only because my partner insisted on taking a trip around the island, otherwise I would have gladly spent 7 out of 7 nights here). Proper, traditional Cretan & Greek dishes prepared without any pretension. Don't be offended if you think the service is what you might call "rushed" at first...you might be a one-time patron never to be seen again and it's a busy place with loads of locals waiting for their food, and given it's only thee guys running around non stop, give them a break. In return, you'll be rewarded with great food. I tried too many dishes to name favourites but I'd definitely come again for the liver, the snails and the rabbit (Jesus, that rabbit!). Can't wait to go back next year. Honest food at very...
