Giakoumis — Restaurant in Municipality of Heraklion

This was the best meal we've had in Greece! And I don't say that lightly, having experience in hospitality business, but the meal left me grinning with happiness ☺️

I highly recommend trying their daily cooked menu, although I'm sure the grill is also perfect - the meat on display looks so tasty. We tried combination from the cooked menu, like stuffed peppers and zucchini, and mousaka - everything was absolutely stunning and prepared to perfection. You can feel the love that went into it. Our very nice server was very helpful, noticed immediately that we are tourists and indecisive of what to order, so he invited us inside to show us the meals and explained everything. This is obviously a family restaurant with almost 100 year tradition where they prepare food with pride and care. Also, most of the guest were locals enjoying proper traditional cuisine.

I always have a meal at Giakoumes when in Heraklion. It never disappoints! Today I had the very traditional dish of Horta, wild greens picked in the countryside by the owner's mother in law the previous afternoon.
