To Kaplani — Restaurant in Municipality of Kaisariani

We visited the restaurant for the first time with friends from abroad, having lived in Crete for 4 years my expectations were very high, but unfortunately the food and the service did not meet them at all. We had a reservation at 7 pm on a Saturday night and the restaurant was almost empty. The staff was friendly and offered us a welcome drink (tsikoudia) and some dipping sauces. We ordered 4 starters, a salad and 5 mains. For whoever has tasted the Cretan cuisine in Crete, the food in "Kaplani" tastes nothing like it. The quality of the ingredients was good but the "ntakos" salad was tragically lacking tomato. Around 8.20 pm, after a long wait, and while the waiters were avoiding making eye contact with us, I managed to ask what had happened to our main dishes, and if we'd have to wait longer. They replied that we would have them in 2 mins and that was the case, we got them after almost 1.30 hours waiting, while the restaurant was almost emply! Unacceptable! The main dishes were an "Ofto" lamb, a "Wedding rice", and 3 portions of "Spaghetti with chicken" (Skioufichta). The "spaghetti" (not a real spaghetti-just a bad translation on the english menu, it is a different type of pasta) was such an unbelievably underwhelming dish that none of us could finish it. All of the vegetables were raw and tasteless and on top of that it was already served with dried anthotyro that has only a plain taste. When the waitress asked us if we liked the food, I explained that we did not like it and she only relied that this is a special dish and some people like it and others don't. Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting To Kaplani, a restaurant that provided an excellent experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by friendly and attentive staff who provided us with fast service. The cozy ambiance of the restaurant made us feel right at home and the great value for money was a pleasant surprise. The food was the highlight of our experience. The Cretan cuisine was all handmade with love, and it was clear that the chefs had put a lot of effort into making each dish. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite and were left feeling completely satisfied. We don't have anything negative to say about our experience at To Kaplani. The service, atmosphere, and food were all top-notch, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a welcoming environment. Our overall satisfaction was...

We absolutely loved our dinner experience at To Kaplani. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Jacob and the staff as they guided us through the menu highlights.

We greatly enjoyed the dolmas (served warm with a luscious texture, much different than the cold ones served in America), house white wine, Kopeli Salad with fresh greens and thyme honey dressing, Mediterranean Eggplant (outstanding), Rabbit with bergamot turmeric lemon thyme rice, Portokalopita (orange cake) and Rakomelo - all incredible.

Most incredible, were the people who treated us travelers like family. This would surely be a regular go-to spot if we lived here! Thank you for the wonderful memories. Until next...
