This was without any doubt one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had in my life worldwide. Let’s start with the few positives: location (naturally because of Oia - Santorini) and service (they heard my feedback and apologized multiple times). Negatives: cannot even start to list all the bad dishes. Bonito was actually so bad that we sent it back. I thought that it was smelling disgustingly and had gone bad. Fava veloute was nonsense (even the texture of the veloute was wrong) and was insulting to one of the staple ingredients of the island. It was accompanied by berries that were out of season and a cheese from Naxos that was so overpowering. Veal tartare was completely tasteless, had no intensity and even the caviar on top made no difference. Artichoke dish was also disappointing. Artichokes felt like they came out of a can, onion broth was like water and asparagus (again out of season) were just blanched and cut. Grouper was our entree. It was soaked in butter to the point that the taste of the fish was completely gone. It was accompanied by samphire (a local green that was even written wrong on the menu) and supposedly that was a fondue (!!!!!!). It was basically only blanched and some inconsistently cut strawberries were added as a garnish. Also the skin of the grouper was not crispy. The dessert was a continuation of the disappointment of the previous courses. A half sphere filled with chocolate that was supposed to melt when pouring hot salted caramel on top (a dish copied by a dozen chefs around the world). Guess what? It did not melt! The cell was so thick that I actually made an effort to crack it. Overall the restaurant and the French chef is an insult to this beautiful island and its culinary tradition. My suggestion to the restaurant owners is to fire him immediately for...
Read moreMy wife and I had a lovely dinner for our 15th wedding anniversary. Though it wasn’t at Lure, it was (if that makes sense). Lure was closed, but they served us Lure food at the Captain’s Lounge.
We started off the meal with bread, butter (one with tomato and the other smoked), and salt (regular and smoked). The butter looked like the red and black volcanic rock you find throughout the island. They also served us an amus bouche of a shrimp fritter, a cheese molded around pumpkin seed and topped with a strawberry coulis, and a take on chicken and waffle.
Next we moved to our starters. My wife got a fave bean dish and I got an artichoke dish. She didn’t quite enjoy hers, but mine was awesome. A little weird to have an artichoke gel, but it worked. The artichoke hearts were scrumptious.
Next we moved to our mains. My wife got the risotto and I got the lamb. My lamb was a little overdone for how I liked it, but the skin was spectacular! The potato purée was good and the sweet potato was great. My wife enjoyed her risotto, but wished she’d gotten the scallop. She originally wanted lobster but they were out.
We finished off the meal with the volcanic Mille-feuille and I got the white chocolate and raspberry cremeux. What a way to end a meal!
The wait staff (Evelina and Antonis) were great. They were waiting for us m, knew our name, and that we were celebrating a special occasion. Though we were disappointed we didn’t get the view, we were delighted...
Read moreUnfortunately, the food wasn’t tasty. The overall value for the dinner was so disappointing. We opted for the tasting menu and wine pairing, but I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service was lacking and some dishes were just terrible. They served a bigger portion of steak for the last course topped with caviar (it was not a great combination). However, I could barely eat the steak, so I asked for a take-away box and they denied it to me and said they do not offer take home boxes—very wasteful.
The views are nice and the heat lamps were nice to have. The dessert course was actually tasty, it was an ice cream cake that looked like a block of charcoal and they added a flake of gold and a tiny drop of raspberry on top for fun.
We were hotel guests at Mystique, which is a 5-star resort. If I were Mystique, I would not want to be associated with Lure based on the poor execution of the food and...
