This was actually really disappointing. A friend from England recommended this place after visiting a few years ago. The place itself had all the potential to be great, but I can’t overlook poor service. After asking for my hot chocolate in a china cup not a paper one (which were on-top of the coffee machine), the lady initially said “no” and when said I had bought the drink to have in, not take away, she sighed loudly and threw a mug across the counter, clearly unhappy to be doing so. I also asked if she could converse with me in Spanish and she smirked as clearly in not a native Spanish speaker. But this hasn’t been an issue anywhere else…
This is not like Guatemalan people who are normally such so hospitable. Perhaps because of my prior review I was expecting too much - but I just don’t see how it’s okay to show contempt to a customer like this. The cafe was primed to be a lovely experience, but with so many wonderful places in Antigua, this shop doesn’t deserve to be...
Read moreWe did the chocolate workshop here at Fernando's kaffee! It was great and in depth. You get to make a lot of customized chocolate and during the tour they let you taste several chocolates that they're in the process of making. Fernando gave an excellent tour in English and explained his process. He explained a lot about cacao and the process from bean to chocolate bar. He was very knowledgeable on all aspects of chocolate including its unique growing conditions and the cacao farmers in guatemala. I would highly recommend! Its very worth the prices, especially since you receive so much chocolate at the end. Its about 2 hours long and you get to go through the kitchen. We also dined in and had some yummy food and nice coffee. Say hi to the cafe cat, Misha, while you're there too! She's sweet and often sitting...
Read moreReally good cafe with friendly service, amazing food, and fast WiFi. I had the sandwich with Spanish salami and mozzarella cheese on wheat bread and it was incredible; may possibly be the best sandwich I've ever had. The indoor patio area is shaded and open to the sky so there was a nice breeze that kept it from getting too hot.
The fact that it's a good place to work or study is a bonus! I saw 2 to 3 tables that had electrical outlets next to them and tested the WiFi speed, which was 50mbps download and 28mbps.
Seriously great cafe!
Update after a few visits: This is probably the best cafe to work or study at that I've found in Antigua. Food, drinks, and service are all great and as a bonus you're left alone most of the time; I didn't feel pressured to keep ordering, although did make sure to order every...
