I recently had the pleasure of dining at what can only be described as one of the best Mexican food establishments I've ever encountered outside of Mexico. Nestled among the bustling streets, this gem managed to stand out not only for its delectable cuisine but also for the impeccable service provided by our server, Gaby.
From the moment we walked in, Gaby's warmth and knowledge were immediately apparent. Her expertise in the menu and her passion for the extensive line of mezcal elevated our dining experience to new heights. Gaby not only recommended dishes with confidence but also guided us through the intricate world of mezcal, ensuring we appreciated every sip.
The ambiance of the restaurant initially struck me as touristy, but my concerns were quickly dispelled as soon as the food arrived. This place is as authentic as it gets. The menu boasts a tantalizing array of dishes, each one a testament to the rich and diverse tapestry of Mexican cuisine. From traditional street tacos bursting with flavor to intricately crafted dishes, every bite transported me to the heart of Mexico.
The highlight of the evening, however, was undoubtedly the mezcal experience guided by Gaby. Her knowledge of the different varieties, along with the proper way to savor each one, added an extra layer of authenticity to the meal. It became clear that this establishment was committed to delivering a genuine Mexican culinary experience, leaving no room for disappointment.
While the influx of tourists may initially raise an eyebrow, rest assured that this place is the real deal. The vibrant flavors, coupled with the attentive service, make it a standout among the myriad of Mexican restaurants. If you're seeking an authentic taste of Mexico, complete with a knowledgeable and friendly staff, look no further. This establishment has rightfully earned its place among the best, and I can't wait for the next opportunity to savor their...
Read moreFridas Restaurante in Antigua is the kind of place that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. From the vibrant atmosphere to the beautifully presented dishes, everything about our visit felt like a celebration of flavor, culture, and hospitality.
We started with cocktails, and I have to say—the passion fruit mezcalita and jamaica mezcalita were unforgettable. Both drinks were perfectly balanced: smoky, fruity, and refreshing, with just enough complexity to keep you coming back for another sip. They set the stage for what turned out to be an extraordinary dining experience.
For appetizers, we tried the cochinitas dorados and the ceviche verde. The cochinitas dorados were crispy, golden, and filled with tender pork that was bursting with flavor. The ceviche verde was bright and refreshing, with a tangy kick that paired perfectly with the mezcalitas. Both starters showcased the kitchen’s ability to take traditional flavors and present them with finesse.
Moving on to the mains, we couldn’t resist the Chiles en nogada and the enchiladas mole. The Chiles en nogada lived up to its name—deeply comforting yet bold, with layers of flavor that reminded us why Mexican cuisine is so special. The enchiladas mole were another highlight, featuring a rich, velvety sauce that was beautifully balanced with a touch of sweetness and spice. Every bite was indulgent and satisfying, yet still felt thoughtfully crafted.
Beyond the food and drinks, the service was attentive without ever being overbearing, and the atmosphere had just the right mix of energy and warmth. Fridas manages to deliver both authenticity and creativity, making it a standout dining experience in Antigua.
Whether you’re craving incredible cocktails, refined takes on Mexican classics, or just a lively and memorable evening, Fridas is absolutely...
Read moreGRINGO SCAM BEWARE
first off, this place deserves 5 stars, really a great atmosphere, good food and excellent service. I went on a Sunday morning and they happened to have live music which was very nice.
but I caught them doing a common gringo scam I've experienced in other countries.
I want to let you know about it so you don't get scammed.
The scam is that if you ask for water like a glass of water with ice, they bring you an already opened glass bottle of expensive water, and try to pour it over the ice before you notice.
It should go without saying that you should never pay for a bottle of water that is just brought to you with the top off, and you don't see them remove the top, and the top is in fact nowhere in sight.
Even if for some reason this was not a scam and they were legitimately trying to give me this fancy water, there's absolutely no reason to show up at the table with the bottle already opened.
I could easily spot that they were doing the scam version because of the water level in the bottle come up close to the top, which would be higher than it would be when you purchased the bottle
They keep a handful of these bottles around and fill them with water from the regular jugs of filtered water.
It was even the exact same brand of water that they did this scam with in Columbia, which made it all the more amusing.
Remember life is a game, everybody's playing.
Will still go back, best place I've been to in Antigua so far overall.
Edit: I'm not referring to the clear resealable water bottle they use to do refills. Also I am assuming they would charge me for it because that happened before, I didn't take the risk and stopped them before...
