We were a group of friends and booked four rooms for two nights hwere. The positives: The included breakfast was good, and it is a very convenient location to Frida's, the arch and Iglesia de Merced. However, due to it being so close to popular attractions, the noise level on the street late at night made it difficult to go to sleep.||When we came back from dinner Saturday night, a band was loudly performing in the courtyard. Unfortunately, all of our rooms were directly facing the courtyard. When we went to our rooms, it was reported by some people that they could not hear their television over the loud music outside their door. Some couples reported that they could not talk to each other in their rooms without talking loudly.||There were signs posted in the courtyard that quiet time began at 10pm. The band played a little beyond 10pm, and even when they stopped playing, patrons sitting in the courtyard still had loud conversations that carried into our rooms, making it difficult for anyone to go to sleep.||Once things quieted down, most of us were then awakened every quarter hour by the bell clock. The heavy sleepers only noted hearing it on the hour. The hotel advertises the bell clock as a feature of the hotel. The hotel also advertises that "In each of (the rooms) we can guarantee you’ll experience a peaceful and quiet night’s sleep." Such was not the case for us.||In our room, my wife showered first. After a couple of minutes, the hot water warmed up, and she had a warm shower until near the end. However, while she was showering, I noticed that water was coming into the bedroom. When I walked into the bathroom, the floor was covered with water. It seems that the lip around the tub allows water to run off and onto the floor. When I went to shower, there was no more hot water whatsoever, so I had a cold shower.||In another room, the hot water handle never produced hot water, so he had a cold shower, too. Oddly, his cold water handle never produced any water whatsoever - nothing came out when only turning on the cold water.||Another room had a warm shower, and another room had cold showers.||The staff started preparing tables for breakfast in the courtyard at about 5:40am, or at least that is when we started hearing them. Their talk to each other and the moving of chairs was awakening, because sound travels easily over the tiled floors and courtyard.||The bed mattresses were hard and worn, making for uncomfortable sleeping.||We booked two nights, but we only stayed one night. We moved down the street one block to Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo and had a very...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for four nights. Two rooms were booked. We arrived on a holiday weekend. The place is world famous and very historically beautiful. They have a great restaurant that many people visit. Our complaint is that this hotel failed greatly at providing the basics of a hotel, a good night's sleep, and a hot shower. There's a nightclub right behind the hotel that pumps music until one in the morning every night we were there. The bass is felt on your pillows. Also, unless you can take a shower under a minute, you will run out of hot water because their hot tanks are connected to multiple rooms, and they can't handle the load placed on them. I showered with cold water every day. After pointing this out at the front desk, we were met with an unfriendly attitude and sour faces. As if they were the ones being affected. This place is beautiful but does not meet a basic standard of hotel service. 4 days of no sleep and cold showers. Go and visit the place, maybe even eat at the restaurant, which is very good, but we spent lots of dollars to not sleep and deal with a miserable staff. There're many other excellent hotels in...
Read moreThis is my favorite hotel in Antigua. But I can't quite give it 5 stars. You cannot beat the location: right under the famous arch!!! The food is normal decent restaurant food. No espresso in the morning, bummer. Rooms are generally spacious. A little stark and sparse at times, but I guess it's how they were historically. I feel the bedding / sheets / towels and bathroom fixtures need an update. I'd gladly pay more to sleep more comfortably. Beside the location as the number one selling point, I also love the atmosphere of the courtyard. It is super cool to stay in the old convent's sister's rooms. The front desk staff is beyond friendly and helpful. They'll do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable. I would not store any valuables in their storage room anymore, but I should have known better. There is a cool bar and the noise does not really travel to the rooms. One down side of the historic rooms is that in front of 3/4 of them there is restaurant seating and it can get loud if you're trying to go...
