86 Kitchen - Vietnamese Restaurant — Restaurant in Budapest

A little Hanoian gem tucked away in a quieter district of Budapest, yet just over 1 km from the Hungarian Parliament and the main sights of Pest. Our family of six visited this homey restaurant several times during our short stay, and it quickly became our favorite. The phở bò here is reminiscent of Hanoi, with tender slices of beef and a broth that is balanced and flavorful. Over our visits we also tried the phở gà, beef and chicken vermicelli salads, Vietnamese bánh mì and the lesser known but truly authentic Hanoi dish: rice with chicken. It reminded me of the glutinous rice dish with chicken and lemongrass served with soya sauce. Every dish felt like a genuine recommendation from home.

The menu isn’t large, but that’s part of the charm. They stay true to Vietnamese cuisine, which we’ve found is a sign of quality in many Vietnamese restaurants across Europe.

We also tried the salted coffee, surprisingly good, better than some we’ve had in Hanoi and Berlin, though still not quite at the level of our favorite little kiosk on the corner of Hàng Đồng and Lò Rèn streets in Hanoi.

I appreciated the small touches of Hanoi and Vietnam throughout the décor, like the handwritten menu on traditional Vietnamese dó paper, the bamboo accents, and the warm, homey vibe. Perhaps a little more lighting inside the bamboo would add an extra special effect.

Finally, our parents had the chance to chat with the owners, anh Thanh and chị Hiền, which made the experience even more memorable. Being a small restaurant, the personal attention you receive here is something you won’t find in bigger places.

We were in Budapest about a week ago and wanted to try some asian food before we left for Bratislava. Felt a bit home sick. Found 86 Kitchen and had a lovely time.

We had 1x serve of the Spring Rolls, a Beef Pho and the Duck Rice and wanted to have some of their desserts but they were out of most things. So we Vietnamese Egg Coffees.

The food was great with the Beef Pho nice and flavourful and the beef well cut. The Duck was juicy and the sauce was lovely. I forget what the sauce was. The Rice seemed a little dry or something but Im not sure. Maybe Im used to Australian Vietnamese food. The Spring roll filling was a bit odd like a puree of meat that was wrapped in pastry. Also the menu had Beef Pho and Stir-fried Beef Pho repeated a few times so I'd suggest reading the descriptions rather than the titles. Might be a weird translation thing.

My one concern was they seemed confused when I asked where their chilli oil was and then I was confused when they brought freshly sliced chillies and hot sauce. I assume European Vietnamese don't have chilli oil. Also they seem to disappear a lot from the basement dinner hall. Maybe cleaning other halls before close but seemed odd.

A truly authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Budapest I must admit. This one was close to our airbnb apartment but we found it by accident. We just wanted to eat home country food that day and decided to give ut a try. To our surprise, the food is made with greatest care and flavor of Vietnamese cuisine while the coffee tastes exactly similar to the one from old quarter in Hanoi. I would 100% recommend egg coffee and matcha coconut latte. The vibe inside reminded me of a little restaurant on a random street in Vietnam capital, peaceful and cozy. The staff is super friendly and takes full care of customers as well. We had to return the next day as we really love chilling there with a cup of coffee on a sunny day.
